NBA Playoffs

C's played some excellent D in the 4th. W's force you to be perfect for all 24 seconds. The c's were able to do that in the 4th. They hung with the back ups for a long time in the 3rd and I think they were ready to defend in the 4th. It's all about the 1st pick and role. If you can defend that and stay attached, you can defend. If you lose Curry early, he hits a 3 or blows by you. The rest shoot it too well and too quick to recover by rotating.

Williams is much better than Theis on the pick and role. Horford was pretty good at times too. Once the C's adjusted to the quicker release of the W's shooters they looked better. W's don't drive to the hoop as well as Miami and are not as physical. C's just need to stay up on them and make them drive to score. Good to win a game where you are adjusting to a much different style.

Offensively the C's shot it very well. Horford looks like he waited his whole life for this. Brown shot really well. Tatum did not but is able to get to anywhere he wants on the floor. The C's did shoot well but they were wide open shots. Even White can shoot with no one around. A lot of that was because the W's don't seem to have an answer for Tatum without doubling. He could get 50 one night if he shoots well. The W's weren't able to force turnovers like Miami either. Smart played only 30 minutes and Timelord 24. Huge bonus to the C's there. Williams is hurt but played through it alright

Kerr will make adjustments. He is an excellent coach. I don't think that there are any cards for him to play offensively. They will do what they do, but defensively they can do better. C's seemed to wear them out some. 40-16 in the 4th. That is really odd for a home team to be on the losing end of. I suspect Kerr may try a bit more zone so the W's older players don't have to work as hard defensively.

That’s what I’m hoping…if Tatum starts to light them up, this might not go seven games…

game two is huge...if W's win it will likely go to 7 because it means Kerr figured it out. If Celtics take it, it means their just that much better and they will win the chip'.

Was surprised to hear that was the first home loss for the dubs in the playoffs this year. Could be that the celts were coming off a tough series, where they won a game seven on the road and were ready to play whereas gs had been sitting around waiting to see who they were playing before they could start to prepare. I think game 2 will be a different story.

Totally being a prisoner of the moment here, but is Jaylen Brown the superstar of the two Jay's? damn!

Not finals related, but NBA related.
What is the possibility that Quin Snyder sits out a couple years and becomes the Sonics head coach once Seattle gets awarded an expansion team?
Mercer Island boy come home to coach?
SF

prisoner of the next moment, Jayson is really good.

Quite the start for game 2.

What a change I have seen in basketball over the years. My first awareness of it was probably in around 1947 when George Mikan first appeared on the scene. He was the first big man and had a huge impact on the game. It was a more polite game back then and even through the Bill Russell era and the Lakers Show Time days it was still being played somewhat as originally intended, not the roughhouse style that has become popular more recently. Today's game incorporates elements of football, hockey, World Wrestling Foundation and rugby. It has become an ugly game with the distinction between charges and blocking microscopically thin and often wrong. Injuries are far more prevalent and why not-enormous men running into each other at top speed in their underwear with no more protection than a reinforced jock strap.

Playing against someone like Draymond Green must be a horror and a real test of a guy's manhood. The guy is relentless and mean as a pit viper. He kind of represents how violent the game has become and is probably a harbinger of where the game is going. Soon every team will need a junk yard dog enforcer in order to match up. I don't see Draymond as a dirty player-not like a Grayson Allen-but just damned chippy and hard as hell to get the best of. Baseball, football and hockey all use some sort of body armor, basketball may soon have to do the same.

I would like to see a stop to every guy driving for a layup getting knocked on his ass. That is where most of the injuries seem to occur.

Oddly I see the Dubs doing better in a slowdown defensive style game in this series. Maybe because their cut game is better? That first quarter was telling...

Solid win tonight but didn't feel like the blowout it was.

I expect a game 3 loss but game 4 will be the decider.

Yeah, previous generations of the game was all unicorns and rainbows....

It was a far far more physical game historically, that's indisputable.

virtually every single one of those in the above videos would be a multi-game suspension (minimum--a couple might be a full season--and were) now.

Draymond's antics are childsplay compared to how they used to call the game.

never under estimate Green's value as more than just their dog on defense...he's their floor general settng up plays going down the floor, and the first to bark at players on the Dubs not with the program, coaches love it...
C's doing a great job on Thompson...any time he has to take more than a few dribbles before letting it fly his made shot per centage plummets, and they are hounding him...and has definitely lost a step from pre-injury...
Having Payton Jr. back in the lineup is good for the Dubs, always in motion, good hands. The Dubs have yet to play their best game of the season, injuries have hurt their cohesion and timing...if they manage to come together in the next few games, chip' is theirs...a big if.

Solid game from the Celtics…
true story.

damn, for my prediction to come true, Dubs better step it up....big time, for 3 games in a row!!!

It cracked me up at the post-game pressers where Kerr and Klay complaining about the mean things the Boston crowd was saying....

Dubs had better put out an APB on Draymond cause he's missing somewhere on another planet right now (he's a little like a Star Wars force ghost right now...you can here him talking, but he's not really there to help much). They should probably start watching tape on "rebounding basics" as well.

If you look at the level of play since the all-star break, the Celtics are #1 or nearly so in a whole bunch of categories. They found their stride under Udoka and were on a tear towards the end of the season. Very physical, very skilled team play. The only question in my mind has been whether they can avoid total collapse in single quarters, where they get outscored very badly, all at once. To win, they only need to keep some consistency … this coming from a lifelong Celtics hater

All series are about matchups…and I think the C’s are a bit too big & long for the Dubs right now…and for the C’s, it’s all about having a decent third quarter…

C's with a big win.

Draymond Green is a dirty player. He went at Tatum's shoulder in game 1 and then last night this beauty:

Tatum's shoulder is clearly injured.

The real issue is that the referee's refuse to call fouls on him. The play above is a foul. Plain and simple. He holds help defenders when he is away from the ball all of the time. He tackles players behind the play, lays on players etc. The referees just need to call the fouls. He would be out of the game in 10 possessions. It's a shame because otherwise the W's are a skilled bunch.

C's have a ton of length and can jump at the shooters and switch every screen. When Williams is out there, the defense is difficult to overcome.
