It's been pretty obvious that he's the primary key to their defense. That guy changes the game when he's in and he doesn't have to score a single point. I honestly can't think of anyone in recent history who makes the kind of impact that he does.

I'm excited to see what happens, whoever wins....it doesn't get much better than the best of 3.

Game 5 tonight. It could decide the ultimate 2022 NBA Champ.

Rather than starting a new NFR thread on the NBA, I might tag on to this one. There has been a lot of folks discussing the GOAT basketball player of all time. Jordan and James seem to be the ones garnering the most support. I think you need to clarify what the GOAT means as there are a lot of ways to take the discussion. If you are talking 1 on 1, that might be a vastly different discussion that who is the GOAT. I would love to see point guards would match up with centers in a 1 on 1 match, and so on. Jabbar and Dr. J played a 1 on 1 game late in their careers and Jabbar mopped him up to the point I felt bad for Dr. J…his shot was just not falling.

Lots of Mt. Rushmore talk too. Here's my greatest starting five by position.

PG-Magic. Not the greatest scorer, defensive player, passer but able to see court and run the offensive/fast break. At 6’9” I think he’d pose a lot of matchup problems. Stockton and Iverson were better pure-point guards and Curry is arguably the best shooter ever but Magic poses matchup problems with the traditional point guards.

SG-Jordan. Need I say anything else?

SF-Bird or James. The latter is the better athlete and defender. Bird had the intangibles, IQ, and killer instinct. He’d want the ball for the game winning shot where James would be willing to pass for an assist. Hard choice for me for this one. I appreciate Bird’s loyalty to the Celtics.

PF-Tim Duncan- Mr. Fundamental. Humble, no-nonsense approach and multi DPY, Champion and MVP. And did it with a variety of individuals and personality types and not just the same core group. The dude was a flat-out winner and I appreciate his loyalty to the Spurs.

C-Chamberlain. This guy might be the most dominant, freak of nature to ever walk the earth and very underrated and appreciated in my opinion. Has anybody ever had the size, strength, speed, stamina, and athleticism as Chamberlain? Some say he was inferior to Russel, was a loser, didn’t win enough championships, etc. When I think of the man’s natural abilities, I’m fascinated. First look at this size. Over 7’ with a huge wingspan. His size and strength were legendary (could compete with word class weightlifters). Competed in the high jump, long jump, and shot put in college. His stamina was incredible (ran marathons in his 50s and even a 50 miler). His speed and vertical jump were incredible (don’t believe all the stories but no doubt the man was quick and could jump). One year he averaged over 48 minutes per game…for the season. That’s right, he never came out the entire year except when ejected at the end of the game. He never fouled out of a game, ever. And yet, at the end of his career, well past his prime, he averaged 8.8 blocks per game for his last 100 or so games when they started counting blocks. The only 100-point game ever. Stats are not everything, but his stats are ridiculous. Averaged 50 points a game for the season. Averaged 27 rebounds a game for the season. Led the league in assists for one year at 8.6 per game for the season…as a center. If they recorded blocks for his entire career, how many quadruple doubles would he have? 55 rebounds against Russell. The stats are mind boggling. Again, he was overshadowed by Russell (who I think was great and some argue one of the best defenders of all time) because of the 11 championships vs. two, but head-to-head, he doubled Russell in points, had more rebounds, and blocked shots was probably about even (Russell was probably smarter but they both struggled at the free throw line). And after basketball, Chamberlain because a world-class volleyball player. Yeah, he’d be my center no doubt.

He reminds me of when the Brow was with Kentucky and hadn’t developed an outside jumper yet…I saw him beat Kansas in the championship almost not scoring in the entire first half…but had a bunch of blocks and seriously was altering all of the shots near the basket…imagine if he develops that short glass turnaround like Duncan…money brah…

That's true....back when the Brow cared about the game of basketball.

that, and maybe get LeBron's nutritionist and trainer.

But man, what a difference maker. For his sake, I really hope his current knee issues don't become chronic...seems like a good kid too.

Dudes on the hard court that size…knees and feet are problematic…

Nice to see a more balanced offensive attack by the Ws. For the Cs, too many turnovers (again) and missed free throws.

from before the finals started....
I can't see this one going longer than 6 games personally.

still on track...

but now, with additional information, I think it'll probably go 7.

Tough game to watch. C's need to move when off the ball. GS holds them all over. They are very good at holding the arms of the pick player on the pick and roll. Same offensively with the off the ball defenders.
If the C's get some off the ball action offensively, it would help. They are so sloppy offensively, it makes it tough to think that they won't just miss a moving target.
It would help to get a few easy buckets in transition. Again, the C's sloppy offense makes it hard for Ime to get them to push the ball at all.
Some bad offense by the C's. Wiggins was the differece maker for GS. He was fantastic.

Both teams played physical defense equally well...grabbing, holding, whatever they could get away with. Looked like GS took a page out of Boston's book of D with how they played last night. Nice to see that the refs are swallowing their whistle a little bit and letting the teams play.

Also, newsflash: Draymond and Smart are really good floppers.

Worst flopper on the court is Curry. Well maybe the best flopper. Throws the leg out. Spins into contact. Fakes contact and falls on shots. He is remarkable. He is clearly the most active actor out there. Defensive flops are a different story. I appreciate that he did not get many calls on his BS acting. He is a great player and great players get calls but they should call him for throwing the leg out to gain contact. That was a point of emphasis recently in the NBA.

C's just need to get more motion and action off the ball. They get stationary. GS has learned how to play the pick and roll by basically holding the pick player and driving the pick player into the ball handler. So the C's need to adjust. Maybe slip the screen a few times.

They are a bit better when they can throw lobs to Williams but he is hurt so you only get 25 minutes. I liked posting up Smart. The C's issue is that they turn it over so much. They just give away possessions. So, they don't run because it leads to turnovers. They get no easy ones and once it gets stagnant GS bullies them in the pick and roll and. The zone was effective for GS too. C's had multiple turnovers against it. Put Smart or Tatum at the foul line. Take the 2 points a few possessions.

Wiggins was great last night. He is a super athlete. He shot well and was clearly feeling it. I thought the C's defense was excellent. It's hard to guard Curry and anyone else. Curry creates so much space. Wiggins found ways to operate in that space. Good adjustment from Kerr or a good time for Wiggins to gain confidence.

Big Al and the bench should be better for the C's at home. If it goes 7 anything can happen. Tatum or Brown could go off. C's really blew game 4. They are a younger team and it showed there.

I heard that the C's haven't lost 2 games in a row since the Play Offs started. Well they lost 2 games in a row to GS. Are they getting tired now?

Great game last nite.

Andrew Wiggins kept the momentum rolling and squashed a few surges on defense.

Looking forward to next game.

The only player that flops harder than Smart is Beverly. Its comical. That said Poole doesn't flop often but boy did he get away with one last night.

Warriors proving they can win down and dirty games with low scores and lots of D. Always known for their 3 shooting but truth is they won their championships with D. Thats how Iggy got a finals MVP.

Going to be a tough ask to get 3 in a row against such a strong team, and the Cs are due. Game 7s are a crapshoot. Still either teams finals to lose.

Game 4 was Steph's. Game 5 was Wiggs. Here's hoping we get another Game 6 Klay phenomenon.

yep. That Poole one was good, although the 10' flying through the air by Smart after feeling alight pressure on the Klay cross-over/step-back 3 was classic Smart.

Iggy with his great D "holding" LeBron to what, 36/13/9...yeah, that was a pretty bang up job. (although, I suppose if you look at FG %, he has a case....I guess.

looking forward to G-6. I think Steph will bounce back but I have no clue what to expect from the C's. They could blow the Dub's out or they could get rolled....

Looking good for my original prediction...

hopefully it'll stay that way....and not go 7 (with my additional information pick).

edit: might be speaking too soon....nice run (with a couple of flops thrown in for good measure  ) by the C's.
