Most useless/stupid fishing gear you have bought?

Probably going to to ruffle some hackles with my choice.

Float tube. I used mine for a couple years before I saw the light. Never going back.

Have two pair , one with boa , and one with laces , wouldn’t own any other brand . The boa’s I take the soles off to get fins over them when in the pontoon . I do have an old old pair of Patagonia’s that has the aluminum cleats , they to are a good boot , but are wearing out . Can’t seem to wear out those Korkers , the only problem I’ve had is the rubber strap that holds the back on finally broke on the original felt soles , there was not much felt left they had a lot of miles on them .

That brings back memories of me staying up late nights as a kid just so I could watch the Flying Lure TV ad. Those underwater videos of that lure "flying" under the lily pads to the biggest bass in the pond had me mesmerized. I couldnt afford the TV special package but as soon as it hit store shelves...I begged my dad to buy me a set.

And the lures kinda worked.

As far as useless fishing gear: My daughter gifted me one of those Fishpond trash receptacles. Great idea, I thought. I clipped it on to my sling pack. Not so easy to push tippet or trash into it. But since it was a gift, I used it until it fell off my sling and became...trash. I did later find it smashed to smithereens at a roadside pullout.

I think a sandwich style Ziploc bag might be a better and less bulky waste collector.

I absolutely luv wet wading in late spring to late fall.

Too cold? Step out of the water...

Too warm? Step into the water...

Do not have to worry about the water filling waders.

Sometimes the water is warmer than the air. Spent many a time wet wading when snow was flying.

I still have my original Gortex waders from Simms I bought in the 80's. Show no signs of wear and they do not leak. They look like a few potato bags sewn together and 2 straps. Very stylish too! I have had guides roll their eyes and laugh at them.

Oh yeah I see now how that could be. The pawls and springs are probably the same as on the Salmon #1, but the inertia of the giant spool on the #2 is too much.

I wonder if heavier springs could be engineered and installed to work better.

Thanks for the info. I actually have a Salmon #2 but haven’t ever fished it.
