Most useless/stupid fishing gear you have bought?

I guess that there is a sucker born every minute. they sure got you guys.

I was a very big Korker's hater after my first experiences with those Gen1 products. Not just poor product, but could put someone in danger if they lost a sole at the wrong time.

They REALLY figured their stuff out though. My DarkHorse boots are bomb proof and I've put some serious miles on them.
I have a pair of those boots I just added a screw to the toe and now they stay put. Simple fix.. But I don't know where the other soles now as I misplaced them. I added the screw to them about 17 years ago.

I’m in the korkers suck camp. Purchased a pair when they first came out. Soles kept coming loose. Finally it happened on the boat and sent me head over heal. That could have been a real dangerous situation. I shit canned them and never looked back. Once a product tries to kill me I’m done with it.

The main issue was moreso that the felt didn't go all the way to the edge, the was rubber around the entire bit of felt. So you'd still slip even if you had felt.

I know people say they're "done forever" with them... but I can say very confidently they REALLY turned it around. They're all I wear anymore.

Never owned a first gen pair of Korkers but I bought the devils canyon last year and have been extremely happy with them so far.

Jumping in the waaay back machine here (like 50 years ago) but I remember seeing a package of pre-snelled bait hooks in one of Dad's tackle boxes. Can't imagine Dad or even myself buying them, but I know we had them. Amazingly they're still being sold! WHY? how much harder is it to tie a leader directly to a hook vs a loop of crappy, and ridiculously heavy mono?

These have gotta be up there on the useless/stupid fishing gear scale:

Never say never, right? :D
I got majorly turned off by the design of the early Korkers, too. They had great customer service, though!

Hey I admitted already those first gens were garbage.

I've grown up in the last 10yrs and don't speak in such absolutes anymore.

I have purchased many things that sucked. Below are the ones that come to mind, immediately.
  1. Pin zingers
  2. Clip zingers
  3. 5-7x Maxima nylon
  4. Echo Shadow Click reel *
  5. Foam strike indicators that have a slit and a rubber tube to hold the line in.
* I'm a big Echo fanboy and I was hesitant to include this. The reel is fine for regular fishing, but isn't good for euro nymphing and that's what it was mainly marketed for.

Totally bad design. Tighten as tight as you can onto a table and it wiggles loose after two turns of the handle.

Mine doesn't do that. I'm shocked to find one of my favourite items on the list. This one gadget and Ziploc bags has been the biggest leap for me in line storage and organization.

I liked the concept of these indicators:

But they're too heavy, cast crappy, and don't float well at all. I tried giving them away and everyone I've tried that with agrees that they suck.
Would the be good enough to use as a regular bobber for cane poling for pan fish ?

Marc Petitjean Magic tools. While they do work as intended I just never seem to use mine. I guess my dubbing loops aren't complex enough...

For me, this one stands out among many

Rapala Charge 'N Glow Fishing Lure https://a.co/d/98i2IpZ

The battery door was too easily opened and it would short /eat brand new batteries in a matter of hours.
