Basic? You are the master of spun deer hair and the term basic doesn’t even apply…. Moderators, maybe we need to have Rich do a SBS for tying these beautiful creations.

Oh man, reading the material lists, I'm shocked. I figured you took a marker and colored in the design on the body/head. Not used pre-dyed hairs to make that design. Can't even fathom how you'd do that. Kudos

Tungsten ant under a spruce moth produced one of the best afternoons of my life on a Rock Creek trip a few years ago. Great fly!
Nice. I'll be to rock creek either early June or early July.
My sales territory includes Missoula. So can't help but to make a trip there once or twice a year.
I'll have to tie some up

Black Ant

Hook - Jig style
Bead - Black/black nickel brass or tungsten
Ribbing - Silver wire
Body - Black tying thread built up to a taper
Legs - Hungarian partridge or any other soft hackle

From an internet video
My feeble attempt to kind of copy. Tried using Chinese pheasant for legs, not the ticket for me. Ended up doing dry hackle. Need to order more soft hackle and practice. Crazy I have so much fly tying shit and seems like I have nothing lol.

Either way, point and laugh. Haha

Edit- after some YouTube research on soft hackles, I was wrapping em wrong. Trying to do like dry fly hackle.
Next result was much better
Emerger pattern? Tails a bit long, but overall happy with soft hackle
(Obviously I'm new-ish to tying. Had a kit for 20 years, but not put in work)

Fish them both and be surprised on how well they do. Those are both fishy
