Great job Brian, and thanks for the encouraging reports. You picked a great week for a beach salmon vacation.Just finished up my annual nine day mid September coho bender vacation.
I really look forward to doing this each year as I love this time of year and being on the beach early each day.
I kind of go on autopilot after the first few days. Get up early, fish then come home and tie up some flies while enjoying adult beverages and watching football and do it again the next day.
Being on the road early is always interesting. There are some crazy MF’n drivers out there plus some deer that wanted to become a hood ornament.
Fishing wise, it was just ok. I’ve had a lot better fishing but also a lot worse on my vacations.
I fished an average of 4-5 hours per day plus a couple eight hour days.
I had two skunk days including today. I averaged between 1-6 opportunities each day. Of course, coho do what they do and some pull the Houdini act on you.
Early on I was running into lots of little unclipped 3lb fish. I won’t call them wild fish based on some I observed.
Later in the week, some real looking wild fish with better size showed up as well as some decent size hatchery fish.
I think the best fishing is yet to come. Unfortunately we won’t get to participate in it, at least not in MA 9.
My neighbors were happy about the hatchery fish and I was happy about the blueberry pie, good IPA beer etc I received in return.
Special thanks to @Wolverine @Kfish @DimeBrite @Scudley Do Right for fishing intel which is always helpful.
The cast of beach characters is always interesting and it was fun meeting some new folks out on the beaches.
I’m super tired and sporting a good case of coho hands but I’d do it again in a heartbeat next week if the opportunity presented itself.
I’ve got a few more coho trips left then on to chasing searun cutts for the remainder of fall.
I’m looking forward to the more leisurely fishing pace.

No we didn’t, but we did get spit on every now and then.Salmon for Soldiers ! My bad got the name backwards. Thank you to all who took these Vets out. especially any Vietnam vets as they never got so much as a smile or nod back in the day.
That sounds like an awesome vacation routine!Get up early, fish then come home and tie up some flies while enjoying adult beverages and watching football and do it again the next day.
You still can, troll for themI’d rather have enjoyed this sunrise casting to coho off the beach.
That said, if you have to commute for work, you could do worse…

And the commute home. I forgot how beautiful the views can be this time of year on the right ferry, with the right weather…and maybe a little wildfire smoke thrown in the mix.

Ok, I’ll stop plastering this thread with Bainbridge ferry commute, PS iPhone shots. I have a ton of them from when commuting was an every day thing for me. It’s nice to get some solid displays on my first real commutes in 2.5 years though!
Impeccable job on that sand panko coating!!! I’m impressed, one of the best I’ve ever seen!!!View attachment 33171Sand Panko being celebrated in the Seattle Times-priceless.
The answer to keeping your fish cool on the beach while you continue to fish. Works for the seals...Sand Panko being celebrated in the Seattle Times-priceless.
True, but I'm way more of a fish snob than a seal. The answer to keeping your fish cool on the beach while you continue to fish. Works for the seals...
