I've seen many native fish look like that at Bush before being released.

The sand then apply the boot is a proven island fish release technique perfected over many years of practice.

Beauty of a sunrise this morning. Nothing like a little wood smoke to make for some gorgeous colors. Almost drove off the bridge trying to get a shot as I crossed Deception Pass . Here's the view from Penn Cove.

What a way to start the day...now if only there had been a fish or two in my future...but I guess I was lucky enough to see this (y)

Maybe tomorrow....;)

I am the king of the driftwood billy club scalp massage. I’ve even given a clam shell scalp massage once or twice :).

I’m not a complete degenerate though. At least I don’t punch the fish to death.
I like @Nick Clayton‘s stone shampoo. I for one once I know it is clipped and I’m going to keep it I put it down how ever I can. Before I remove the hook. I’ve seen hooks in body parts as someone reaches for a flopping coho.

Fished hard yesterday and today with the kiddos and my dad. Mostly trolling but I'm so glad that I get to spend quality time with them and my dad in some beautiful weather.
Got one yesterday due to a late start and went 4/6 today.PXL_20220924_140607547.MP.jpgPXL_20220924_155743600.MP.jpgPXL_20220924_210748963_exported_1664056081296~2.jpg

Took some time to fly fish for cutts and was getting short striked a lot. Most were ldr and pretty small but always loving watching aggressive cutts fight each other over the fly while stripping it to the boat.

Had to go south for some family stuff so headed to the canal for a few hours beforehand. I also had a new line I wanted to test out.
A nice cool 47° when I arrived at 6:30.
Tons of small anchovies on the surface with a few getting attacked. I tied on a silver Goldie which I never changed. It was sure nice to not be casting a 3-4” clouser and to fish at a much more relaxed pace.
Ended up with eight cutts to hand. Biggest I landed was about 14”. It had a huge of chunk of flesh missing from its side. As I was getting ready to take a picture, it escaped out of a hole in my net. I guess netting crabs while fishing isn’t a very good idea. 😂
I did see one big jumbo jump today. I covered the area well but got no hookup.

I added to my beach golf ball collection.

Ran into a rare beach egg hatch. It’s odd to me how people use the beaches for their own yard waste / compost. Must have been at least half a dozen eggs on the beach.

There were a good number of folks out fishing some of the more popular spots.

Nice day overall but way too bright and sunny for good fishing. The water still felt warm to me as well. Some rain and clouds would be welcomed.

1-5 for me today across a couple of beaches. I am now one for my last eight and officially in my own head :). Landed fish and at least two of the others were very solid (jumped before I lost them). Some of the nicer fish of the year. Another beautiful sunrise as well.

That wraps MA 9 for me too. It was a good season. Last year was better numbers of fish in the freezer wise but I probably hooked up to more fish overall in 2022. Lots of unclipped fish around, especially early in the season. Still some coho around in other open MA’s though. Looking forward to that still.

After fishing a west side beach yesterday morning I drove out to the big island for a MA9 season closer. Got there just in time for the sunset and had a cocktail on the beach before dinner. It’s far from home but I love fishing this area for the scenery alone. Got out at first light this morning and as usual I was the only fly guy at this particular beach. Landed a decent hatch hen within 10 minutes and got one more bump after that and then nothing. Saw a couple others caught by gear guys on the W rotator hoochie special but pretty slow overall compared to normal for this time of year.

Had a couple hours so I thought I give a fruity tooty clouser a try at a local north beach. It was very windy, choppy waters, and kinda cold out. Little action, lots of sea salad harvested by little fruity tooty. I decided to wet wade which ended up being a mistake…..adventure was cut short, my 6-7 year old Keens sandals had a blow out. My left heel came apart, sloppy footing wasn’t on the itinerary thus maybe an hour on water.
