The Stonedfish/Bambooflyguy monthly lake dry fly challenge!

Starting in January are you up to the challenge of catching a trout on a dry/floating emerger each month? Any lake….on the honor system if there is such a thing as “honor” amongst us fly fishers….. We trust you…..no need to name the lake but even better if you have some witnesses to verify your amazing feat! Test your skills, should be fun!
(Bonus points if C&R’d with bamboo!!)
I've never used a dry fly on ice before.

So I caught a fish yesterday on a type 5 line that hit my trailing fly at the surface and launched himself in the air and over my other fly line which was a floating line. That leader was toast by the time I landed the fish. Does this count as a dry fly take?

So I didn't catch any today on a dry. Didn't even try. Somehow I missed this thread. Glady you told me about it today.

I'm in, but I might need January 2026 to do it. Haha! I guess the winner is the first one to catch a dry fly fish in every month of the year? So conceivably, I could still be the winner even if my January fish comes next year?

This might be more frustrating than fantasy football. 😁

Any luck yet Phil??

That would assume I’d actually gotten out fishing. I may have bit off more than was ever intended…. The idea was to start figuring out our local lakes (I’m in the some ‘hood as you), but between music, bicycling, nordic skiing, yardwork, and whatever else, I haven’t actually made the attempt. I need more hours in my day.

Well I gave it a shot today….perfect 0/0! At least I didn’t miss any. Calm and cold! Some big midges popping and the fish were eating them, but no real opportunities for sight casting. HRQ 6 is a great dry/emerger rod!
I walked my dog at lunchtime, saw how flat the Sound was and thought of you, wondered if you were on a calm lake and if any midges would be popping. Then I thought of how I was chilly just walking around and took comfort knowing you were packing antifreeze. CR brand antifreeze.
