It occurs to me now that it's similar to those long, skinny barracuda flies.

I can see how with slight modifications it could be used as a rockfish and lingcod fly, as well as many other applications . It's one of those universal shapes that works in a,lot of places, like a wooly bugger.
If it had wire or cable could be a nice cuda fly...

In the abstract. Not a real precise mesurement of the Rit orange; just stuck a bamboo skewer in the bottle and dropped in the dye bath.

tail - bleached pheasant tail dyed ginger (1/2 Tsp Rit Marigold, 4 drops Rit Sunshine Orange/2 cups water)
rib - small wire gold
body - rabbit tan
hackle - grizzly/dark ginger
1st shoulder - woodduck flank
2nd shoulder - hen badger dyed ginger

Tip - Lower half, oval silver tinsel; the upper half, yellow floss
Tail - Golden pheasant crest feather, with red hackle barbs tied on top
Butt - Black ostrich herl
Ribbing - Oval silver tinsel
Body - Green floss
Hackle - Green hen hackle barbs tied in at the throat
Wing - Dyed black squirrel tail tied low over the body or substitute
Topping - Peacock sword feather barbs
Cheeks - Jungle cock eyes or substitute

A dremel tool to smooth the back end and cup the face, 3/0 B10S, add some legs (the foam helps level the heavy-hooked rear so it pops better) and hope bass are really lenient art critics for the finished product. Top coat for the belly is clear-ish GITD nail polish over irridescent peach for those predawn hours
