Are all the shows there 2-for-1?
'Course, she probably wouldn't have gotten around to writing/recording this (my favorite of hers, and really, such a great song). Maybe it's the arrangement here, but it occurs to me that this sounds like it could pass for a traditional Irish song handed down through hundreds of years:
RIP, Dolly....
Love Jolene, probably my favorite also, this version is great too. Jack White sounding unhinged with some big Meg drums, when you hear it you think Jolene stealing Jack White's man is probably a good thing cos Jack has some crazy going on. Meaning maybe Jack never even had this man, but instead was just psychotic stalker nutcake...Flipping the gender of the singer totally changes the song's tone and how it hits, at least for me. Dolly singing as a sorta low-esteem hopeless lady is not particularly funny, that jealousy makes me think of the dumb times I felt similar emotions, it's relatable. Sorta pathetically winsome that still works, in part also because as a dude you don't want to see Dolly getting hurt.... but... Jack White's version is - to me- kinda funny in the absolute cluelessness of why the relationship's gonna fail and delivered in Zeppelin/Jwhite tropes that just kicks some crazy ass..
A lot of Dolly's Songs are kinda same vein as spirituals but secular
