History is filled with megalomanic tyrants commiting grievous military blunders, surrounded by fawning sycophants, who eventually share the same fate. That's the path Putin has chosen, and we're along for the painful ride until the world is free of his slimy carcass.

Just want to say, "What a welcome change from the other forum"! Both sides of the political isle finding they have more in common than they realized. 'Very Cool"!
next door neighbors can have serious disagreements, but when the bully from two blocks over shows up out front and starts throwing his weight around, it's time to kick ass and get back to arguing later...

History books are full of these stories ,one would think people would learn from History as the ending is always pretty much the same every time . Damm humans are dumb !

As one of those who had his post deleted, I can assure you there was NO sympathy towards Russia in that post.

My deleted post contained language concerning this that was not quite so eloquent...
WW - I know you well enough (virtually speaking) to know you would be on the right side of this. Definitely nothing in my post was directed at you.

I hate what's happening to the Ukrainian people, but I hate the prospect of us going to war with Russia a lot more.

Have some of you forgotten that Putin has a finger on "The Button?" Increasingly unstable as he is becoming, do you seriously not think he will use it as soon as he starts to feel the walls closing in? These are frightening times, indeed. We need to hope HARD that the Russian people can somehow change Putin's mind, but I see no great reason for optimism on that front this evening.

We absolutely have to get rid of Putin regardless of what happens in Ukraine. We do not have the option of letting him remain in control.. we have to do it regardless of what button his finger is on..

If we do nothing we become the bad guy and deserve to get nuked off the face of the planet

Can't agree with deserving to get nuked. There's better options.

If the country doesn't change from within, a new dictator usually just pops up to replace the old one. Being new and eager to make their mark, they're also often more enthusiastic about dictating stuff.

True. It seems from the protests in Russia the will to change is there. Their failures in Ukraine at the moment at least seem very encouraging also. As dark as things seem there appear to be bright spots all over.
Any way you slice it though Putin is a war criminal who needs to be held accountable and likely should pay with his life. Either the Russians give him up or we take him from them. And the sanctions stay in place until we have him and the Russian government legally agrees to mind their own business when it comes to who joins NATO.

Here's an interesting perspective; a former American intelligence officer, on Russian state-run TV.

Edit: Whoa. Never mind. This dude is a weirdo. I guess they are paying him to be part of their propaganda machine. Video removed.

Time to bring Finland and Switzerland into NATO, and for NATO to equally share the cost to 'iron fence' Russia's borders, especially Germany whose been riding the US force deployment in Germany for decades so they don't have to build up their own army...it costs the US over $8B a year to maintain that force, while Germany only reimburses $1B, and in total the US spends $811B to maintain our NATO forces.
