Superglue

I really like Loctite products but whoever designed the brush on their brush-on super glue needs to be fired or take a lesson on brush technology from the Zap-A-Gap folks. 😂

Forget YETI, I want a Loctite sponsorship.

I think the weak point about the Loctite Brush on superglue product design is less the brush itself which works fine for me, but more the narrow neck which eventually clogs up. It can be cleaned but the nice wide Zap-a-Gap bottle neck is a comparative joy to work with. However, my Zap-a-Gap brush-on bottle necks have gotten glued shut to where I can't open them with pliers; that has never happened to me with Loctite brush-on bottles. Maybe these things are related?

The bottle neck size is certainly issue. That may be what is causing the brush issue, at least for me. The brush just doesn’t work very well while trying to get the brush in between dumbbell eyes. I usually end up having to trim down the brush. Here is the brush from my current bottle. 😂

Looks like your bottle neck may have gotten hella clogged, man. I use a bodkin to clean/maintain mine if they start to get clogged. That can also be about the time the bottle is going bad. I don't think I've ever been able to use a whole bottle but I also take some long breaks from tying sometimes. I've also used scissors to trim the occasional bent brush fiber. I think the bent fibers schlob more glue on the bottle neck, and now you got yourself a feedback loop...

No matter the brand, I have issues keeping a bottle going over time. I have learned a few tricks (using a bodkin to spread glue and keep the bottle neck clear is a good one), but if I don't use a bottle for a few weeks, it's usually trouble of some sort. The thing that always blows my mind is how the glue always finds its way into the cap area and dries, causing the cap to stick and the neck to become clogged with dried glue. I'm always careful to store glue bottles upright, but the stuff always manages to find its way where I don't want it. Most of the time, a little effort gets things "flowing" again, but sometimes, there's no recovering and it's time to replace.

The good news is that glue is relatively cheap and easy to replace, so I don't get as annoyed with these issues as I do waders that leak after a short period of careful use. I've whined about that ad nauseum in other threads, so no need to go there.

I just used that in a pinch to reattach my korkers replacement sole to the boot which no longer desires to be united with the sole. That squeeze bottle is the shit, it sets fast and strong. Got me through a quicksandy, muddy day with the soles still "attached."

In addition to use for tying, I use it for those painfully recurring skin cracks at fingertips and creases in the winter, likely not healthy but it's an instant problem solver, reduces the sensitivity and accelerates healing IMO.

I've found that zap a gap lasts longer for me when I cut about half the bristles off the brush. I think that it's less prone to clog up the opening that way. I have an old pair of scissors I use to cut the bristles in case I don't get the glue wiped off entirely.

I’ve also kept them in ziplock bags with every little pouch of desiccated silica I get. It might help, but I haven’t tested it against a control.
