River Coho Thread 2024

Youre on a roll, just like your posts last year. I'm out flogging the water and having a bit of success but still on the Farm Team squad comparatively. I'll keep at it!
Thanks! I'm sure you're doing fine. Shoot me a message if you'd like some feedback or we could potentially meet up on the river.

That's a big ass homemade bobber, I mean indicator, that you're using there :ROFLMAO: Ira would be proud of ya!

Dave
Dammit, I keep looking at the picture and can’t find it. Why you tease me like that?

Sure is a funny looking coho
Is it a Coho? Genuine question as I have a hard time always ID-ing salmon correctly before they start to morph a bit. This fish was hooked and landed 1/4 mile from salt water on an incoming tidal push. Several others just like it on preceeding days along with a much bigger fish that had black gums, spots across tail top to bottom and a distinct Chinook smell even though it was as shiny as a bumper. This fish and the others had none of those characteristics? Genuinely curious.

Looks like a steelhead to me

It’s hard to tell from the pic but I thought I could see spots on both the top and bottom halves of the tail, and I thought coho only had them in the top half? Kings have spots on both top and bottom but this fish doesn’t have the black mouth of a king. So i really don’t know.

I am really bad at ID-ing fish, both from photos and especially in the heat of the moment after landing one. I have had some embarrassing moments in the past!

That's a fresh coho. 100%. Another couple weeks and those freckles down it's side will be more red and pronounced along with the coho beak that is just starting to come in.
