Puget Sound

Hit the sound with @Kfish in his boat looking for chum today and maybe an SRC. Hooked some chum but tough landing in strong current. Not the end of the world, they were all going back, and the last few feet getting a chum in the net is the most painful and dangerous to rods anyway. Should have hooked way more than we did considering the number of fish we hit our flies in front of but they just weren’t nippy on the tide we were fishing. Fun morning on the water regardless. Ended up with an early fall Sound trifecta though the SRC caught were on the small side.

Last adult salty coho of 2025…?

No pics of the new hat? 🧢

My poor Nausicaa had bit of a misadventure today at low tide. While running to another spot we came across a shallow gravel rocky bar that was about a foot deep. I thought the engine blew a piston rod or something from that cranking grinding sound, it was the skeg that took most of the brunt. Used my net handle at first to push the boat out to deeper water but it just was faster to jump out of the boat to push then hopped back in.

The skeg took it like a champ, and prop blades now resemble whale flippers. I should look into a prop replacement :)

You might consider having that prop repaired at the prop shop in mukilteo and then carried as a spare. if you are buying a new one. A spare can save a destination trip

I always carry a spare. What is the name of the prop shop in Mukilteo? I frequently travel through there on the way to visit our son.

I probably should have said and texted “we’ll have to take it slow there on that tide” a few more times :).

I kid, as you know I’ve run my prop annd skeg into the dirt on at least one occasion before as well. I wasn’t going 20 knots when did it… but I did it.

Yeah I heard, but I factored in a 50% reduction b/c you're just too cautious a lot of times :) What do ya know you were right this time!

The chummies are indeed thick in certain spots. As were, unfortunately, members of snagging subculture of the flyfishing community, who were oddly eager to evangelize about the merits of their approach to anyone nearby. “I’m an unabashed snagger” - clearly, but I didn’t ask. “There’s an art to it” - there’s an art to eating ass, too, but that doesn’t mean i wanna watch you do it.

Anyway, scored a few on a floating line and gaudy fly as proof of concept for the skeptical.

Then some palate cleansing SRC fishing.

Chum and humpies in rivers or creeks always bring out some interesting characters.
