Puget Sound

Heading in about an hour ago, I noticed a chinook tail laying on the beach. Probably 10-15 pound fish

Chinook ain’t open in that area.

Fucking assholes. When we got in we asked some dudes that had been out there if they caught a king and they said “no, I don’t think so”

Among all the other worse aspects of that - who the hell cuts the tail off a salmon they retain?

Yeah, doesn't make sense. Maybe they weren't aware of all the identifiers
It's not a perfect theory. But I could see some mental contortions happening after someone did something naughty, intentionally or accidentally and then sorta panicked and decided to do...something...to try to obscure the evidence, but actually just making it all the more suspicious...

It’s been a slow start to the season for me but I finally got on the boards today after two previous skunkings (on keeper fish).

Also came across this thing (nudibranch?) on the beach. It looked like it had excavated out of a tunnel in the sand and was very slowly working its way towards a shallow saltwater channel. Hopefully it made it to its destination. I watched it for a good 5 minutes or so but it probably would have taken it another 15 to go the next foot and a half to the channel. Probably 3 1/2 inches long and 2 1/2 inches wide.

It would unfortunately appear to be similar to something that I’ve heard about and have seen before, a known method called, “fillet and release.”

The tail likely washed in from MA11

All kidding aside, it’s amazing how often you hear “can we keep kings” or “can we keep wild fish” when someone lands one off the beach and it’s closed. Might want to take a quick peek at the regs before you start fishing. If nobody or few folks are around as I suspect was the case here, more likely than not it goes home with them.

Puget Sound Fishing Facebook Groups are hilarious, in addition to being called slurs I routinely see people asking strangers on the internet to tell them the current regulations. Of course, half the answers are wrong. Someone is trying to convince people Kings are open in Area 10 because of the Sinclair Inlet exemption. Someone else told me I was wrong when I told him that Area 8-2 is not in fact opening for Kings and coho on August 26th.

Yup, I saw it this morning. Dude caught a coho, dragged it 20 feet up the beach, and then shouted to the next guy “ how do I know if I can keep it?”. The other guy had to explain to him what a coho was. Fortunately it was a clipped fish. What would he have done if nobody was around to confirm?
