Last two vehicles were 1500 Silverados LTZ ran both 150K+. Last one had a “lifetime drive train warranty” but after two 8 trannys committed suicide I traded it at value with replaced tranny for a ‘23 GMC Sierra SLT with the 3.0 inline 6 LM0 diesel and 10 speed with 7K on it last November. It now has 48K on it. It was off a one year lease by a reputable individual located within 50 miles of the house. It has 3:23 rears so I do not have the Max Tow 3:73 package. It’s my daily driver being somewhat retired but not standing still as you may deduce. I was involved in the trucking business for nearly 20 years before I came to my senses and departed but did more 2MM miles in the lower 48.
I regularly get 28-32 mpg locally, 30-34 highway, and pulling loaded boat trailers, which I do as my retirement job quite frequently a very respectable 16-18 mpg. Yeah, maintenance is more expensive, diesel and DEF is not cheap, but damn, I’m enjoying the hell out of this motor. The package has a lot of doo dahs I don’t need or use but are available if I want use them due to the trim level. It had/has the stupid Auto-Stop, in a turbo diesel no less which is just asking for trouble. It is now overridden by a little $120 workaround. I also added a iDash from Banks that gives me better insight as to what goes on inside the power plant when under power.
Downside? I’m looking at a large bill at 200K due to the design of the motor as the drive belts are at the rear of the engine for the oil pump, injection system, et al, will need to be replaced. This involves pulling the transmission and getting deeply involved. Time will tell.
In closing this past May & June the missus and I did our annual drive-about, NC-COL-UT-OR-WY-SD-NE then home with an aggregate of 8K miles and 30.3 mpg. YMMV.
This past week delivered a new boat to CT and deadheaded back home w trailer.
Boat: 5100#
Trailer: 1200#
Truck: 5800 # (+/-)
Here you go….

So 40K miles/ 11 months in on a <$60 investment which new was $75ish I’m feeling good about my vehicle although I’m more than a one off driver as drivers go. That being said I am more than all in on safety and environmental improvements being added to new vehicles each generation. Cleaner fuel, better brakes, longer lasting vehicles, proper maintenance, you bet!
Situational awareness ……? This needs a Come to Jesus moment and has, to some idiots and many innocents. I can’t wait for the day that phones only work via Bluetooth in vehicles with texting being totally unavailable at all time while the vehicle is moving. Gawddamn some of the results I’ve seen of inattentive stupid A-Holes makes my heart bleed for their families & friends. Well, I’m done, be careful out there.
