NFR F-150 owners ?

I'll take durability over mpg any day....

But maybe that's just a bias from decades of dealing with the shitty American vehicles of the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's.
I bought a new Gmc Sierra 1500 in 1997 as a work truck. Ran it for 20 years and put 460,000 miles on it . Never had to touch the engine but did put a couple transmissions in it. Overall i was very happy with the reliability of the truck.

Last two vehicles were 1500 Silverados LTZ ran both 150K+. Last one had a “lifetime drive train warranty” but after two 8 trannys committed suicide I traded it at value with replaced tranny for a ‘23 GMC Sierra SLT with the 3.0 inline 6 LM0 diesel and 10 speed with 7K on it last November. It now has 48K on it. It was off a one year lease by a reputable individual located within 50 miles of the house. It has 3:23 rears so I do not have the Max Tow 3:73 package. It’s my daily driver being somewhat retired but not standing still as you may deduce. I was involved in the trucking business for nearly 20 years before I came to my senses and departed but did more 2MM miles in the lower 48.
I regularly get 28-32 mpg locally, 30-34 highway, and pulling loaded boat trailers, which I do as my retirement job quite frequently a very respectable 16-18 mpg. Yeah, maintenance is more expensive, diesel and DEF is not cheap, but damn, I’m enjoying the hell out of this motor. The package has a lot of doo dahs I don’t need or use but are available if I want use them due to the trim level. It had/has the stupid Auto-Stop, in a turbo diesel no less which is just asking for trouble. It is now overridden by a little $120 workaround. I also added a iDash from Banks that gives me better insight as to what goes on inside the power plant when under power.
Downside? I’m looking at a large bill at 200K due to the design of the motor as the drive belts are at the rear of the engine for the oil pump, injection system, et al, will need to be replaced. This involves pulling the transmission and getting deeply involved. Time will tell.
In closing this past May & June the missus and I did our annual drive-about, NC-COL-UT-OR-WY-SD-NE then home with an aggregate of 8K miles and 30.3 mpg. YMMV.
This past week delivered a new boat to CT and deadheaded back home w trailer.
Boat: 5100#
Trailer: 1200#
Truck: 5800 # (+/-)
Here you go….

So 40K miles/ 11 months in on a <$60 investment which new was $75ish I’m feeling good about my vehicle although I’m more than a one off driver as drivers go. That being said I am more than all in on safety and environmental improvements being added to new vehicles each generation. Cleaner fuel, better brakes, longer lasting vehicles, proper maintenance, you bet!
Situational awareness ……? This needs a Come to Jesus moment and has, to some idiots and many innocents. I can’t wait for the day that phones only work via Bluetooth in vehicles with texting being totally unavailable at all time while the vehicle is moving. Gawddamn some of the results I’ve seen of inattentive stupid A-Holes makes my heart bleed for their families & friends. Well, I’m done, be careful out there.

Are we all so incompetent that we can’t drive on our own anymore?
No. Not all of us, just enough of us. If you consider yourself an above average driver then most of the others on the road are worse than you.

Are insurance rates a lot cheaper for vehicles with all those gizmos since there far less accidents?
insurance premiums will likely always be dictated by replacement value of vehicles, cost to repair, home zip code, and miles driven each year.
Older folks aren’t the only ones that aren’t driving well. I see an awful lot of very young people driving along, distracted, looking at their phones, looking at their TV screen on their dashboard and anything other than paying attention to driving.. so let’s not think this is a do all, save all for old farts.
x2....per capita a lot more in the younger demographics are involved in accidents exactly for the reasons you laid out.
Meanwhile, living in the Bend area, I need all of my attention, and than some, to deal with winter ice and the craziest driving horde of contractors in one tons and 4x4's imaginable..

My wife got in a nasty collision on our local two lane highway that totaled her SUV when a car pulled off the shoulder into her as she was going 60. Her car braked before she could react and could have something to do with both her and my daughter walking away without a scratch. I also find some features annoying at times but you can’t deny new vehicles are safer and that’s priceless. That same scenario in a 1992 ford ranger with an AM/FM radio, roll up windows and a single “airbag”…. Good luck. When it comes to my loved ones I’m good with all the fancy airbags, sensors and microchips that make it possible for the car to brake faster then the mind and body can comprehend danger and protect you when your vehicle completely crumples.

A lot of safety naysayers in this thread but from what I can tell, not one of them has reacted to this ☝️.

I'm sure glad to hear your family is safe.

Thats pretty simple to figure ,probably some have never driven a vehicle with lane assist ,adaptive cruise etc . If we could have heard the comments when the car was replacing the horse ,and buggy , most likely this conversation is about the same . :) Some just don't like change . Yes , I agree glad that the family was safe ,if that isn't convincing enough with the naysayers nothing that could be said to convince them of the safety features in our vehicles .

On edit ,and I am not exactly one of the young lads on this forum , and not that much younger than some of old grumps on this forum in their eighties , being 77 . :D Do I miss crank up windows ,no air conditioning , 2 door pickups , no cruise control , hell no , and the list goes on . I had many 2 door pickups ,one of the most dysfunctional vehicles there was , nothing compared to a four door ,that can be a family vehicle, towing etc etc . I think one mentioned small beds on the four door trucks , huh !! They do come long beds . Although I like 1 ton 4 door short bed diesel trucks . I use mine mostly for towing a fifth wheel .

My God, how have we come so far, for so many years without all these gizmos? Are we all so incompetent that we can’t drive on our own anymore?
We bought our Mazda CX5 3 yrs ago. It has the "Grand Touring" package with adaptive cruise, "lane assist" (vibrates the steering wheel, not a hands-off "lane holder" function), auto brights, auto wipers, hill holder brakes...

The adaptive cruise and lane keeping is fantastic nowadays. My cruise will handle stop and go traffic. It’s so much more relaxing. I’ve done multiple 18 hour drives without getting fatigued.
Rather than "relaxing", I'm going to say the Mazda's adaptive cruise is less stressful in stop and go traffic, especially freeway stop and go. Its acceleration on the "go" parts is slower than my manual input giving other drivers ample room to fill the 2-3 second gap to the car ahead I keep it set to so it happens often. No big deal; it brakes for me, doesn't really increase my driving time much, and I'm not that possessive about "keeping my place" in traffic. And have any of you gotten a ticket accelerating even though idling down a hill from a cop you hadn't seen from the other side and lit you up before you could slow? I have, and it won't happen with our Mazda set for the speed limit.

Where adaptive cruise doesn't work so well with the Mazda is when the car ahead is above or below me on a steep hill. The radar must have a narrow beam to avoid getting confused by oncoming traffic. It gets my attention in a hurry when the closing rate to the car ahead doesn't decrease as fast as it does on a level street.

My 2006 Ridgeline has 105k miles. Only a couple of driver assist features. Won't replace it for another 10 years. By then I will be in my 80's and hope that the auto-driving feature will have all the bugs worked out so I can still get around easily.

My fishing buddy has a newer Ridgeline we’ve taken on some 1000 mile trips. I love it. Drives more like a car and 26 mpg. If I didn’t have a 6500# TT I’d not hesitate to own one.

like the latest Ridgeline and Pilot models, two fine vehicles my 34" inseam just doesn't find enough legroom in.

My older model is just fine with my 36" inseam. I used to be 6'5" so No sunroof due to clearance for my fat head. All trafeoffs...

I'm sitting in bed down here in Las Vegas, on a family visit reading this. We drove down from Oly in my 2020 F-150. We took it on this trip for the comfort factor, as our earlier trip this Summer to Island Park, in our Subaru turned out to be a little to much. I've got the 2.4 (?) twin turbo engine with a 10 speed transmission. It's been great on the road. Good power for passing all the semis coming down from Twin Falls on US-93. Smooth comfort and 22mpg to boot. Unless you're towing something big, it's all the engine you need...

As A side note for all you GM guys who had or have truck problems:
