Baseball 2025

Winning % of .600 right now and offensively near the top of the league: 3rd in HR, 6th in OPS, 8th in runs, 1st in walks, 3rd in SB. Fun to watch indeed. It certainly doesn't portend anything in particular going forward, especially in the face of mounting injuries, but Polanco is on an epic heater.
After the dismal 3-7 start to the season they have gone 15-5, that's .750, the best record in the majors for the last 20 games without much help from some of their former standouts and dealing with injuries. It is a long season but right now it's good fun listening to the M's finding a way.

I've had to do penance for all the foul language I used last year whenever 'crazy eyes' Jorge Palanco came up to the plate. This guy is absolutely owning the dish right now. Anything can happen, but this is a different team than last year. Their hitting approach is so much better; preferring contact over 'perfect' contact.

I love the Edgar/Dan/Seitzer message of "hunt for damage early/in good counts, fight for survival late in counts". The team batting average isn't there, but turns out you can score a bunch of runs by walking, stealing bases, getting into the bullpen early and often, and hitting bombs. Somewhere Billy Bean is smiling.

Sports trivia question for today: Which MLB team currently has the best record in the American League?

Well baseball fans, watch a game and you just might see something you're never seen before. Today was such a day. Watching those amazing young Royals in Baltimore, 11 home runs were hit, the first 10 of which were solo shots. First time in MLB history in a game with 10 or more home runs that the first 10 were solos. To my great pleasure though, the team with the fewest home runs in the majors, the Royals, hits 7 of the 11, a Royals record (previous was 6 in one game). Best of all, the Royals won the game 11 - 6. Kansas City has now won 11 of their last 13 and moved to 3 games above 0.500, at the moment, 2.5 games back of the division-leading Detroit Tigers.

Suck it Royals....lol. If you watched then you saw that Ryan O'Hearn hit one a foot below going over the fence. Would have been his second on the day and set the all time MLB record for 11 solo shots in a game instead of just tying it at 10. Gawd my O's suck.

I would not count them out, if they can get over some of the injuries, it's really good line-up.

quite the series with the M's and the A's right now; some great baseball going on. Pretty strong statement if the M's can win the series with Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, Ryan Bliss, Victor Robles, and Luke Raley all out with injuries.

I've said it before when he came up in conversation, Pete Rose was an amazing baseball player, there's no doubt about that. By dozens of the sport's metrics, he should have been in the hall of fame as soon as he was eligible. I don't fault people who make a case for his being allowed to be inducted. He holds MLB records that will never be broken. But the guy was also apparently a world-class s--tbag of a human by virtually every measure, as well.

We all know he broke the number one rule of baseball, don't bet on the games. But he's also a federally convicted tax cheat who went to prison for it, someone who was deeply addicted to gambling and lied about it for decades, allegedly ended up in hock multiple times to the mob due to his massive losses, refused to acknowledge the daughter he fathered with one of his mistresses for 20 years, charged $100 for autographs (even for kids) as his main source of income after his career (while sitting in a casino), has a million stories out there about what a jerk he was to many who met him, and don't forget the time he cussed up a storm and talked about seeing Joe DiMaggio in the shower when speaking to a US Army kids baseball camp:

"It was a complete embarrassment," said Staff Sgt. Steven Tischer, commander of the Colerain-Highland Ridge U.S. Army Recruiting Station that sponsored the baseball camp for 7- to 14-year-olds. "You don't swear in front of kids, that's just common sense. He dropped the F-bomb and the S-bomb. He told them winning is everything and if you get second place you're just losers.""His comment that he was (bleeped) off that Marge [Schott] didn't leave him any money in her will and that she left it all to the zoo. His comment about how Marge loved to smoke and she would have smoked in her sleep if someone was there to hold her cigarette all night. His comment that he saw Joe DiMaggio in the shower and he saw more of him than Marilyn Monroe ever did. His comment on a good friend of his that was a gambler - and how I could go on."

And worst of all, he was accused of having a sexual relationship with a 14 year old girl, admitted it was true, and his excuse was "I thought she was 16" (the age of consent in Ohio). He was a 34 year old married father of two at the time it happened.

To be honest, I could get over most of the other stuff. He's a baseball player, not my accountant. But not that last item. Disgusting.

Per the article link above:

"Obviously, a person no longer with us cannot represent a threat to the integrity of the game," Manfred wrote in a letter to attorney……..”

He sure as shit was a threat to the game while playing, also while still alive and not playing. One gets elected to the Hall of Fame, Baseball, Football, Tiddlywinks, whatever, for what you were, not just what you accomplished statistically during your career while associated with your respective sport or occupation.

Rule#5 for Election:

5. Voting: Voting shall be based upon the player's record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character and contributions to the team(s) on which the player played.

I’m with @Josh here. He was a repulsive human being on and off the field. Let sleeping dogs lie, and that’s not fair to all of man’s best friend out there.
