Baseball 2024

A stat that I had not heard before. Over the past two seasons JP's batting average with the bases loaded is .650 with more extra base hits than singles. I have kinda liked seeing him at the plate with men on base and now I know why.

@albula , very interesting stat! Thank you for posting it.

Maybe we should let the batter call their own balls and strikes ... Just kidding!

Need to get the electronic calling of the balls and strikes (whatever that is called)...
In AAA right now they have robot umps. The batter is actually able to challenge the call strike or a ball.

Robo umps can't get in place fast enough. Its utterly stupid to not use the technology. Pitches today are too fast and have too much movement for a human ump to get correct much more than 90% of the time. Then add it that every ump has their own particular "strike zone."

And lastly when it comes to challenges. Biggest stupidity in all of sports is to have only a subset of plays that can be challenged. Give a team X number of challenges. Let them challenge any dang call they want too. No need to have any rules about what can or can't be challenged. The limited number of challenges will keep it from bogging down the game too much. If a team wants to challenge a ball or strike call then let them have at it.

The Angels are terrible, but I'll gladly take the sweep. After today's game, the Mariners are on pace to win 90 games despite the underachieving offense and have a series record of 10-3-1 over the last 14 series. This is a good, but flawed team, but their pitching will scare nearly any team over the course of a playoff series should they make it. I'm a believer, sticking with my preseason prediction of 91 wins and a playoff berth.

Mariners continue to win. So many 1 run winners. #1 in the league for that stat. Makes for fun games to watch.

I really hope Munoz is okay. So important to the Mariners as a closer!

Last night in the O's game (which was awesome cause we destroyed effing Toronto) was a great example of why they need to do away with the rules on what you can and can't challenge. O's have a man on first and James McCann is at bat. McCann swings and misses as the O's runner was attempting to steal second. Toronto catcher stood up to throw but didn't get the ball transferred and he fumbled it forward into the field. In doing so his left arm bumped into McCann in the batters box. Note the catcher throws right handed. Well the ump called McCann out for interference and made the runner go back to first. The ruling was that McCann had hit the ball into the field of play and therein no longer is shielded from interference just because he was inside the batters box.

Totally blown call but its not reviewable. Thankfully it had no impact on the outcome but what a horrible miss by the ump.

Gotta ask did anyone, other than Stonedfish and Mossback of course, really think that the M's would be in 1st place in their division on June 5th with a 5 1/2 game lead over the world champion Texas Rangers?

After doing a little digging in the last 2 years he is 13 for 19 with the bases loaded including 3 home runs, 4 doubles and a triple to go with his 5 singles. That is pretty stout.

I requested 92 wins before the season started.

Don't have to score many runs when you don't let the other team score any. Do the M's have a new ace?

Looking forward to the Royals-Ms rematch. Royals just split with the division-leading Cleveland Guardians and are at 37 and 26 (.587), 4 games back.

M’s gonna have to drop a few precious coins.

Do not waste this starting rotation. Gilbert, Kirby, Woo, Miller, and Castillo all are no. 1-2
Type quality starters. Good bullpen. Get the wood!!!! And just maybe, maybe ….. take the pressure off Rodriguez and a couple others and watch them flourish. Could be a beautiful thing. An exciting September/October?
