All Mariner games are blacked out in my area, even with MLB TV so I haven't watched them play for years. But I see the crawl at the bottom of the TV showing the scores of the games and after their initial lead was surprised to read this morning that they had lost. It appears that the demons of seasons past have not yet been exorcised. So you hard core Fan Boyz need to curb your enthusiasm as the season is just barely 1/3 over, still plenty of time for the Mariners to be Mariners. I would like to see you guys finally get a World Series victory but that path takes you through the Yankees, Phillies, Braves or Dodgers, not an easy gauntlet to run.
The Dodger team that I have followed since 1948 when they were "Dem Bums" in Brooklyn has been struggling lately despite an 8 game lead in their division. Last night they were embroiled with their long time nemesis-the New York Yankees in a game that was scoreless after 10 innings. Sadly it was on Apple TV and I didn't get to see a minute of it. I did follow it along using Gamecast on my computer and the Dodgers finally broke through with 2 runs in the 11th. Judge drove in a run for the Yankees in the bottom of the inning but fell short in what was a real classic of a game. It was a surprising win for the Dodgers because their pitching staff is such a patchwork of unknowns and rehabilitating veterans. And their vaunted power lineup consists of mostly just 3 guys that can hit and 6 guys that specialize in double play balls, pop ups and strike outs. Although they seem to score a lot of runs they are masters at leaving men in scoring position.
In the American League the Yankees look formidable this year and I don't see many weaknesses with Philly in the National League. A lot can change by October though, Yankee stars are prone to injury and sometimes good teams just go south after the All Star game. Early season success is no indicator of dog days performance in a long season. Since baseball season and fishing season are mostly concurrent as long as MLB is on TV I am fishing starting with spring training right up to the World Series. When it gets too hot to fish I retreat to my recliner, watch baseball on big screen TV in air conditioned comfort and sip a crisp IPA. With about 90 games a week to choose from life is good!
