Aurora Tonight

Cloudy. Total ripoff

My buddy in the hills north of Ellensburg sent me some amazing pics from tonight.

Here in Buckley there’s a little color, but nothing like I captured in May.

Nope....

They were charging $10 to get in down at the Safeway parking lot. Deal is you pay 10 bucks you can get in and just view from the car.

Could anybody actually see them with the naked eye??? Tried last time and saw nothing and everyone said you had to use your phone..
For the people who posted the pics, is that how they looked in person ?

Yes and no.

With the naked eye, I would see just a haze in the sky. Although last night I was noticing a slight tinge of pink where there shouldn’t have been anything. That was my first clue.

The photo sensors in the phone camera seem to be super sensitive to colors and that why you see such vivid colors from the pictures on the phones.

Finally got to see it here in SWW. Missed the May event being sick. Effing patchy clouds and a half moon didn't help but it showed pretty well on my phone camera.

We traded; I got sick and crashed the heck out last night, but I stayed up late 2 nights in a row in May gawking at the sky, and got a real good taste of it then.
I read the sun may be at or near the solar maximum and we might expect more solar storm activity in the next couple years as a result of the Sun’s north and south poles switching.

Same here last night. But I we could easily see the event earlier this summer with the naked eye. Pretty cool to see Northern Lights multiple times in one year! Before this year, I have seen them maybe 3-4 times total.
