    NBA 2025-26

They were national announcers? I could only watch the highlights of the Celtics-76ers game, but could’ve swore that the announcers were on the Celtics payroll. Kinda got a bit of that vibe from the Blazers game, too

    NBA 2025-26

It wasn’t an upset for 76ers or Trailblazers fans! In fact, I’ll take ALL these wins in the interest of good sport, just not sure how many more are coming.

    Dismantling of the USFS

Snowpack determines drought for water supply and irrigation for much (but not all) of the PNW. At any point on the landscape, drought depends on soil moisture. Much (but not all) of the PNW is currently in soil moisture drought. The site below shows 5 estimates of soil moisture, toggle...

Cuts and chaos already caused 38% less federal wildfire mitigation work in 2025.

    10wt rod shopping

The recently discontinued 10 wt Predator has power almost similar to the 9 wt Boost Blue, the latter being one of the more powerful 9 wts I’ve thrown …. not an unmanageable beast, but a real performance stick. The Predator suits a more average casting stroke

    Good News/Bad News

Based on recent events, he is more likely doing it to spite a Canadian company (Northern Dynasty) or is otherwise looking to gain an upper hand. Whatever the reason, I hope it sticks.

    OP Steelhead are not Endangered

Wild broodstock fish are more hassle to propagate than traditional hatchery fish, but this study was all wild broodstock. It compared 2 wild broodstock collection methods: angler-caught vs terminal-caught. In Oregon, ODFW allows certain guides to collect wild broodstock while fishing. This...

    Echo Rod Nomenclature

I have both in 9 wt. The original “x” has a slightly stiffer tip than the revised Ti version. The difference is subtle, but noticeable if one geeks out on that sort of thing. The two tips are interchangeable (re: ferrule fit) on the second sections.

    OP Steelhead are not Endangered

I agree that ESA listing helps, but for Oregon coho, the cessation of commercial harvest has been a *big* reason for their recovery (in addition to habitat improvements and less hatchery and mixed-stock fisheries)

NFR Alcohol going out of style

I don’t disbelieve the trend, but the statistical inference from that graph isn’t great. It’d be more interesting (to me) to see age-corrected data, i.e., the proportion of people in each “gen” who were drinking (amount, frequency) at age 25.

Can you weight an unweighted tube fly?

heavier, too. ~ 14 grains is equal to a big lead eye or tungsten bead - it might be a handful on 6 wt spey rod if you’re just starting out. Also a bit much for a lot of steelhead water, depending on where you fish. I use 1/32 and 1/16 (very very rarely 1/8) off an 8/9 wt spey, for chinook...

Can you weight an unweighted tube fly?

I use protubes, too - just not their beads. Using an HMH microtube inside of the protube both holds the bead on the front (sticks out) and makes a built-in hook keeper on the rear (inset). It isn’t for everyone, works great for me

Can you weight an unweighted tube fly?

The hole size on typical cones/beads is too small for most tubes. They’ll fit over microtubing. For tubes fished in 12 lb test tippet, I nestle HMH microtubing inside of regular tubes, and leave some microtubing sticking out of the front to accept regular beads. When fishing heavier 20 lb...

Anyone ever chop a skagit head down?

Yes, and there’s an potential trap in this, most apparent in really short heads: one removes some line to make it lighter, but what remains loads harder (if using the same overhang, because the fattest portion of the line is now exposed). At that point, one potential response is to then cut...

Anyone ever chop a skagit head down?

I’ve cut and built more lines than I can remember, before options existed. The market is now flooded with lines and people often try various heads to get a perfect match. Your doppelgänger is out there, wishing he had a 475 instead of a 450. Put out a wanted ad, you’ll get lots of offers for...

    Looking at Drift Boats

There’s a lot of variety in hull shapes in both aluminum and glass. It is best to row various boats, but lacking that option, buyers need to be observant. For example, you mentioned Koffler earlier, they have one of the most aggressively rockered aluminum hulls, and Lavro glass hulls are...

    Looking at Drift Boats

What if you brought a delaminating / failing boat to their attention? Friends have (guides, to give an idea of use), and they were also told to start using the damn boat properly. :giggle:

    Looking at Drift Boats

Most driftboat users near me want pedestal seats everywhere and transom space for a gas outboard - features that fetch higher prices. The trailer on this one might be budget, bolt together with plastic fenders (?), swing tongue (check integrity), but could be perfectly fine for the use.
