    Columbia smallmouth

I did get a few hours in on the main stream Columbia last week, but couldn’t buy a fish. Seemed to be a lot of weeds this year where we normally toss a fly, so did spend more time out in 15-20’ of water, and saw a few on the finder. A nice, rainy, foggy, no wind day, but I’ll give it a couple...

    Columbia smallmouth

Anyone try fishing for SM bass in the Columbia this early in the year? I’ve got a couple spots that were good in the spawn (April -May) .. but I need to catch a fish.

    First fish…!

Wow… a great way to start the new year (!) ..although it may be all down hill from here! 😁 I just spent a couple fun hours up on one of our favorite west side lakes, and was pretty much dialed in! The first hit I missed, 🤷‍♂️ the 2nd I broke off on the take (big fish..steelhead? ) 🤦‍♂️ .. the...

    WTH?

Haha… once saw a woman nearly jump off her pontoon boat as a rattlesnake tried to join her on Coffeepot!

    Why do you fly fish?

It’s as much fun a guy can have standing up.. or sitting if you’ve got a ride.

    Fish porn, and bragging rights..

October 31st pretty much ends the fishing season for me. Most of the streams and lakes close, and the weather generally sucks until about March 1st. I'm not sure I caught enough fish this year, but sure got some nice ones! I kept a record this season of all the fish I caught over 20 inches (and...

    Horsethief and Rowland

I’ve fished to south side as well… pretty ugly launch site, but the bass were great fun with poppers!

    Horsethief and Rowland

It's the first time I've seen it at Rowland, but then I usually fish it in the spring. The bummer was WDFW just dumped 1100, near 1 pound rainbows in there on the 9th.

    Horsethief and Rowland

A buddy and I drove upriver to Horsethief lake (by the Dalles) … to see if there were any SM bass that wanted to play. We found a few, but I was surprised at how much of the lake was weeded over… nearly half of the lake (west side) is un-fishable. Fairly slow fishing, but we also managed a hand...

    Intermediate/clear camo lake lines?

I've got a SA "Sonar" stillwater camo clear intermediate (1.25ips) line ... that I Iike to use in water less than 10'. Absolutely no coil issues, and casts beautifully on a bamboo fly rod. Having said that, my silk lines tend to sink after an hour or two.. with the same results.

    Paul's Secret Lake...

I drove up to Paul's secret lake yesterday, and pretty much had the water to myself.. for the first hour or so. Then it got crowded. The plan was "hoppers and droppers", and I did see grasshoppers everywhere in the grass, but only had one refusal on mine. Plan "B" was a little (#12) olive egg...

    Secret lake/hot flies...

Austin, my daughter, and I drove up to our secret lake in the WA high Cascades (it was packed with gear guys and gals pulling out with their limit!) .. and had great fun! Austin got the most, (30!) .. but Heather got the biggest and the grand slam! (rainbow, cutthroat, and brook trout) ..and I...
