Well played. I am going to make my move, regardless of you not taking the bait.
All solutions require money and the money has to come from somewhere. It most certainly will not come from the perpetrators themselves; it will mostly come from the rich. Thus, bringing down income inequality and proving my point.
Instead of spending money hiring police to provide accountability, that money could be put toward making it not happen in the first place. This is what countries that don't have these problems do. This country would do well to abandon pretenses of exceptionalism and be humble enough to look abroad.
I respectfully do not agree. Also I'm glad you saw the good natured humour in my response. It's hard in print to provide inflection. I'm glad you didn't take it as mean a dig, my refusal of your baited offering. A dig yes. The same dig I would administer around a fire while tossing you a beer. Keep casting, I did rise and look at it. Your tippet was a little big and a mend not timed well enough.

Hire a lot of social workers. My dream is to have a social worker in every home, eating all their snacks.
Really though, I already explained it earlier; you can police the problem or you can stop it at the source. Either way, it will require a wealth transfer. According to everything that I have ever read, stopping it at the source is far cheaper. That would entail your typical, feel-good, socialist shit; improving public education, providing free contraception, providing free healthcare, etc.
The only alternative is to accept it. That is an option, but then we would all have to stop complaining about it and making threads on the internet.
My solutions are cheaper and more effective.
What are your solutions? You haven't explained how you will achieve your accountability utopia.

Wealth inequality? Or rampant drug addiction? There is only one correct answer. Unfortunately without the correct and honest answer, all of the solutions provided by the wrong answer only exacerbate the issues faced by the right one, as has been clearly observed over the last decade.
It’s not pretty, and gonna be hard to own up to and be wrong considering how far the city has let this go, but you can’t pretend to act with compassion if you are totally ignoring the root of the problem.
Addicts are people too. They need help, but like actual real help. Pretending they need a place to live and a job is a waste of time and tax dollars but it makes it sound better then it is superficially, I don’t care what the budget is it will never be enough because you aren’t treating the problem. When you are locked in to the street life and surviving one fix to the next, neither a home or a job means anything at all. They don’t want it or need it.

Clearly you are not doing it right. Apparently it is a zero-sum game where how much someone else has directly effects how much you have. Others having more than you grants you license to steal and 'even things out' a little.
How much of your wealth are you going to transfer?
In early childhood the difference between right and wrong should be understood. Certainly as one matures, so I still contend that it’s no one’s fault but your own if you decide to break the law. If you do stupid things it should hurt. From personal experience I can tell you it does. Free shit won’t change it. And the only thing that’s free is the air we breathe, at least for now.
