I commuted along the Columbia River from Vanatage Bridge to Priest Rapids for many years. There's a tremendous caddis hatch this time of year which leads to lots of food for spiders. The spillway structure at Priest Rapids is perect habitate for spiders to build their webs and capture the bugs as they lift off the water. It's almost eerie to walk along the spillway and listen to the spiders rustling in their webs; certainly not fun to have to work on equipment with dozens of webs hanging from everything. And those spiders get BIG.Not going to post pictures - some people just do not like them.
Spiders are earlier than ever this year. Webs are being built everywhere starting August 10th this year. I usually do not see web building like this until around Labor Day. Do they know something we do not (like an early winter)?
Man, you sure get some great shots from your Lazyboy! Such detail!Trying to catch up with all that everyone is posting-great to see!
This is Ernie just now in the front yard. I took this from my lazyboy chair in the grass from about 10-15 feet. I swear, I have NOT been tying pheasant-tail or teeny nymphs. It is just coincidence his tail is missing...
I have been looking for it !

And what I think is a very tired Gray Hairstreak. But honestly butterfly ID isn't a strong suit of mine.
