Not going to post pictures - some people just do not like them.

Spiders are earlier than ever this year. Webs are being built everywhere starting August 10th this year. I usually do not see web building like this until around Labor Day. Do they know something we do not (like an early winter)?

I didn't take a pic of the corpse, but today my husband was trimming a shrub just off the back deck that often conceals a rabbit den. He called me over to show me the very fresh body of a hawk under it! No visible wounds or broken bones.
Last night we had heard a loud thump out on the deck. Maybe it misjudged a dive on something? Or maybe these guys are killer bunnies?

I commuted along the Columbia River from Vanatage Bridge to Priest Rapids for many years. There's a tremendous caddis hatch this time of year which leads to lots of food for spiders. The spillway structure at Priest Rapids is perect habitate for spiders to build their webs and capture the bugs as they lift off the water. It's almost eerie to walk along the spillway and listen to the spiders rustling in their webs; certainly not fun to have to work on equipment with dozens of webs hanging from everything. And those spiders get BIG.

On another note - this little guy visits our yard and garden daily (lousy picture):

Trying to catch up with all that everyone is posting-great to see!

This is Ernie just now in the front yard. I took this from my lazyboy chair in the grass from about 10-15 feet. I swear, I have NOT been tying pheasant-tail or teeny nymphs. It is just coincidence his tail is missing...

I have been looking for it !

Had another less-welcome visitor than the usual deer family, squirrels, and bunnies. About two weeks ago, we were sitting in our family room after dark with the windows open for some fresh evening air. All of a sudden, we smelled a skunk really close by. We quickly shut the windows, turned on the A/C, and rode it out. We didn't pay it much mind until about two days later when it happened again. This time it woke us from a sound sleep. That's saying something. It must have been right next to the house. I got a flashlight and scouted the perimeter carefully looking for eyeball reflections. Did not see anything.

Years ago we used to smell them much more often. It seems there are far less of them around these days.

On top of all that, I got shunked on my next fishing trip. Coincidence? Nah, happens all the time...

This poor norwegian fir is burning up again this summmer, but at least it's still home for some critters, unlike 2 of the 4 blueberries, which are toast. It didn't seem to apricate the shower, or did it?

I saw a Mantis at the gas station this morning; I have no clue how it hadn't been run over. I put it in the car & released it at home.

Well... Spiders knew something we did not - until now...

This winter is going to be a La Nina winter ---> colder and wetter :(:(

This year is one day behind having the most days 90 degrees or more since 1950's.

What's the issue? No air conditioning?

No, I hate summer and hot weather.
