Coffee talk

I suspect you mean Olympia Coffee and I also think that they have some of the best brown juice around. If I didn't or couldn't roast my own I'd be buying Olympia Roasters beans on the regular. They've grown, and even have a cafe up here in my neighborhood of West Seattle now.

I think it might actually now be called Olympic Crest in Lacey based on the price Salmo mentioned. I use their Sicilian roast for espresso and it's very good. Plus, you get a full 16 ounces for $14 instead of $19 for 12 ounces like you do with Covabrelli or Olympia Coffee Roasting (probably who you're thinking of). F@#$ shrinkflation. 😉

Olympia, Olympic... hard for even the locals to keep them straight. I think Olympic Crest used to be Olympic Coffee Roasters. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...ChAWegQIQRAB&usg=AOvVaw1GIPJGThijvQacGlH7W10s

Yes, it is Olympic Crest. I've been a customer of Chuck's since he had the van with the mobile espresso set up that came by our office.
Was it the converted yellow ambulance? That thing got a lot of my money when it pulled up to the office.

Never heard of or tried it but I will if I ever get the opportunity.

Soy Lattes ?
😁

Olympia and all...

No, it was the white van driven by Chuck's brother Mike, known as "Mocha Mike" at our office. I met Chuck later when Mike told me that they had a brick and mortar store, now a Vietnamese grocery or something. Chuck bought the old Dairy Queen on Pacific and converted it into the coffee shop and roastery.

Not even. Chuck & Mike were, shall we say, opinionated. (The brothers fought like cats and dogs.) In the mobile van days they didn't do that soy stuff. In the coffee shop Chuck has to accommodate the occasional Olympian from Batdorff & Bronson's Dancing Goats who drops by to have coffee with the lower classes. But the baristas behind the counter snicker behind the back of anyone ordering soy.

Really? At $55 a Unit??
Both my wife and I "remember" things that likely didn't happen - in this case, I thought you'd posted a question about coffee prices and if they are increasing. (They are, significantly and I'm unfamiliar with Pacific Star and US Foods). I mostly buy green beans from Morecoffee.com. Since starting the green bean home roasting hobby seven years ago, prices haven't quite doubled but the increase is sharp.

I did roast beans day before yesterday, the garage smelled like roasted coffee with hints of coffee that was just roasted, no soy, no dark or milk chocolate, no mint, no notes of berries or citrus or cinnamon. ;-)

Happened to be in Ballard this past week during a weekday. Had some time to kill. So I went to look for some good coffee in the brick old part of town. I managed to find the most precious of coffee shops, ordered a pour over and waited with a little buzzer thing that went off when it was ready. Partially inspired by this thread to broaden my horizons, I took all the paraphernalia that came on the wooden tray, the carafe, the clear glass and so forth and sat down, poured my drink out and had myself basically a ridiculous time. The coffee was both expensive and ok.

The best part of the coffee excursion was all the Goths that showed up. Goths getting coffee, while not as awesome as Goths on a beach, still points a day towards awesome. They looked fantastic and I can only hope they had some Nox Novucula in their future, particularly as bleak bright day turned to the dark joys of night.

None of them were staring at their phones, unlike the rest of the people in the shop. And the Goths were smiling and having a good time.
One of their friends had what appeared to be a fox tail emerging out from the leg hole of their cutoff denims. This person was not obviously a Goth, but the Goths had accepted them as one of their own. Anyway, Goths brought the joy to an otherwise bleak and kinda goofy coffee house.

Enjoying this African coffee as a change up from my usual Ethiopian and Kenyan stuff. It’s got a subtle fruit thing going on. Roasted to the onset of second crack. View attachment 191006View attachment 191007
Reminds me I need to roast some for my morning Aeropress. I've got a wet process Sumatran going for espresso that is the shizz, sort of unexpectedly I have to say.

The surprise favorites are sooo nice. I have two Sumatra-origin varieties in my stash. Gonna try ‘em when fall weather gets here.

That's why I order a bazillion varietals. I focus on descriptions of acidity, brightness, tropical fruits and lemon etc. but always sprinkle in some talk of cocoa, nuts, earthiness and a li'l funk.
I just did a big re-stock from Sweet Maria's. Their prices seem not to have gone up (yet) as much as I feared.

Big fan of affogato, normally straight vanilla or chocolate ice-cream. Punching way above weight is QFC's Private Select house brand of ice creams. QFC's chocolate ganache scooped into some piping hot coffee is outstanding and far exceeds any mocha slop (particularly anything anchored with hershey or ghiridelli chocolate syrup. They might as well be bile fluids in comparison to the Private select).

QFC Private Select Country Vanilla is top notch also, it's almost a straight up coffee custard flavor.

A surprisingly good flavor combo that's melting into my Coffee this PM is Tillamook Dark Cherry. Wasn't expecting it would work great but it hits well and when they say "notes of cherry" well f-yeah! Obviously! It plays a little more acidic, but still sweet as.....

Long has it been since the Goths sacked Ballard, a bitter roast indeed.
