What Are You Eating?

As a kid I really liked 7/11 Slurpees. Lately I've been using a small blender to make the best "Slurpees" ever. I start with the brand "Simply" fruit punch. I then add some frozen fruit. Strawberries, peaches, blueberries etc.. but then... here is the secret..I add one of those little plastic "fruit cups" of mandarin oranges. This gives the drink a tangy kick (like a Slurpee). No ice is needed with the frozen fruit. I make it thin enough to use a straw. Cheers

First time cooking and eating Cortinarius caperatus. I’ve seen these now and again over the years but only once in big numbers that I can remember. Never bothered to actually harvest and try them out. In WA it’s definitely an incidental find while looking for other species. My girlfriend spotted these on a recent hunt and we decided to take a few of the younger ones for sampling.

I cooked them in a little sunflower oil until just crispy on the edges and sprinkled with a small pinch of salt.

The verdict: nice texture, mild flavor and delicate flesh. Did not turn bitter when caramelized. I would harvest and try these again for sure. They remind me of giant “straw” mushrooms.
