Saw the 2nd half of the Chickens. They looked fine offensively. The opponent just traded their starting D-ends though.
The Commanders beat my beloved patsies the week prior sans Was D-Ends. Pats did bumpkiss.
Pats are not good on offense.
If you wanna see a broken QB, look at Jones. That is what broken looks like. Dude looks like Geno looked 7 years ago.

Geno looks like crap for two reasons, neither of which I fault the guy for. Lack of pass protection; the pocket collapses in 1.5 seconds, maybe less. If Geno ran around all over the backfield like Willson did, maybe he could salvage more pass plays. The second reason he looks like crap is due to the Seahawk style of long developing pass plays without the pocket lasting long enough. Geno did make some quick short passes in the second half, and those did make a difference.

When the offensive scheme is so predictable that a casual observer like me knows what the Hawks will do next, that's poor scheming at the pro level. Perfect (horrible) example: hand off to Walker when he's on the right side, and there's an open space with 2 defenders at far right. True to Seahawk form, Walker curves back to center and straight up the middle where 5 defenders meet him to ensure no gain of yardage. Opposing teams can count on Seahawk run plays to be straight up the middle, and the O line will create a hole less than half the time. When Walker can find a gap, he is absolutely terrific. But please, he needs a hole or gap to run through and more play creativity.

This game, the play calling actually became pretty decent. They kept the TEs on post routes, lined DK up inside a lot, then hit Lockett on curl routes and dumped off to Walker in the flat - all of which allowed for a quicker pass game, which has worked for them before, and worked this time. They seemed to use Charbs between the tackles more, which is more his strength than Walker's. For the first time in quite a while, I don't have too many complaints about MOST of the play calling. There were definitely a few head scratchers, but it felt like they adjusted to what actually works.

It does seem like the receivers weren't quite as savvy to the quick passing game in the first half - lots of miscommunications and wrong routes, which led to incompletions, but they cleaned it up.

I do have questions about our offensive play calling. When I watch other games I see things that I never see when I'm watching the 'Hawks offense. Seems like a complete lack of imagination in the play calling. Yes, way too many slow-to-develop passing plays. Our 3rd down conversation rate is almost last in the league. That seems inexcusable considering the talent we have on offense, which leads me to coaching being as big an issues as anything.

The other thing I'd add about Geno is that he picked up too much of Russ's hold onto the ball forever tendency. (You could tell he got chewed out at halftime for that absolutely baffling and just inexcusable final play of the first half--he was much quicker to dump it out of bounds in the 2nd half.) And while there's no doubt that the O line and some of the formation calls play a role, at the end of the day sacks are predominately a QB stat.

The most frustrating part is that occasionally, like yesterday, the offense will suddenly look like an NFL offense. It'll look and work great, and everyone says "wow! finally they are opening up the playbook!" Then the next game, it'll go right back to Peteball.

Hopefully this doesn't follow the same pattern after yesterday.
 
I will defend Carroll. Bill Parcels famously said, "You are what your record says that you are." The Seahawks are 133-84-1 with Pete Carroll as head coach.

Peteball is a difficult brand of football to watch at times. It is remarkably successful. He has won with a 3rd round QB and now a QB that was not good enough for the Jets. Seriously, the Jets. The Jets.

In my opinion, Smith is a middle of he road starting QB at best. He's the 13th or 14th best starter today but you'd likely pick more than 14 before him if you had your choice of all the QB's and everything else was equal. He's like Baker Mayfield but tall. Peteball has assisted in getting him to 6-3. Peteball does not require Drew Brees or Pat Mahomes to win. The offense is limited. It always will be. It has won 61% of it's games though.
 
Good reset game for the Niners., their corner coverage much better playing man vs zone, makes the QB hold the ball longer and the Niner D-line amply displayed what a beast it is... with their current depth they can rotate the studs in and out = fresher D-line vs gassed opposing O-line come the fourth quarter.
Niners vs Hawks' twice in the next four weeks...sweep or split?
