then you'd need to find some Sunbeam Tigers to race. Buddy had one, was a hoot on the twisty roads of the coastal foothills where we lived...Hendrix or Cream playing on the after market eight track..and yes, we did inhale

Not a race car just a cool Sunday driver.

If I was going to build a race car it would be a 1970 torino super cobrajet with the drag pad option. Then build the motor and narrow the rear end.... all real racing is done in a straight line with a big heavy car... :)

I had a 1970 Torino when I was 20-21. I bought it for $800 from a mechanic friend. It was a four door, and just had a 289 in it, I think from like a 65 Falcon or something. It had been three on the tree but my friend made it a three on the floor. Sometimes, if you didn’t shift just right, it would get stuck in neutral between 1st and 2nd gear and so I’d pull half onto a curb if I could, crawl under with a 9/16” wrench and unjam the linkage. It did have a factory hood scoop, and a 4 barrel edelbrock and some kind of aftermarket electric ignition, but it wasn’t fast by any means. Kinda fun though. There’s just a feeling you get from driving those old cars.

edit--no, it was between 2nd and 3rd gears that it would get stuck. Oh, and a guy pulled in front of me in a nice new truck on a narrow street. The Torino didn't stop quickly and his rear quarter panel got all torn up. The Torino made it out with a bent front fender extension and a crack in the grill. That totaled the car. His insurance gave me $800 and I got to keep driving it. I needed to unload it before moving and a friend of mine took up a collection in the kitchen he worked at and they bought it from me for $200, to give to a dishwasher who was walking to work. My naive self let him drive away with my plates and I was in Alaska calling home and my mom told me there was a letter from the police and the Torino had been impounded, I owed them... lol ...eventually got it straightened out

The Vanilla Ice of vehicular transport.
That thing behind the back seats, is that like an elephant liver or some kind of raft of organ meat? Also you know that would be fun to slow roll Alki in, playing "more than a feeling" on the factory speaker as loud as it can go.

It is actually the hyde of several naugas, for your information.

Oh totally, except rather than the factory speaker, it could be like my friend Stu did and put in an amp hooked up to custom tweeters. Ideally it would come through on an AM radio station.

Driving through Greenwater in my Datsun 2000 got pulled over playing this too loud:

Fun times for sure!

Had a ‘67 Datsun 1600 roadster in ‘71, lusted for a 2000; they were so much faster and more reliable than the competition. Started looking for one in 2011, came across the Miata and decided that suited me better. Modern safety equipment and air conditioning is a big plus where I am. Nice 2000s are bringing $$$$$ today.

Yes, road trip!

3 years ago I was seriously considering bidding on this car, Miata handling and Corvette powered; the wife reminded me that I’d lose my driving privileges within 30 days if I owned it.

I'll stick with this . . . runs well for a little Jeep, but it's less likely to cost me my driving privileges.

My last one was a 1970 2000. Used to race it at SIR - D production. Kicked a lot of butt. But was expensive to upkeep especially since it was my daily driver. Also had 2 1969's and another 1970 before that...
