I think it’s called the Cigar, a European sea trout pattern. You’re correct, they fish it in the dark.Tell me about this black spun deer hair fly. Fishing before first light?
Can you or someone explain why dark colors work better in low light (and vice versa maybe)? It’s always been counterintuitive to me.I think it’s called the Cigar, a European sea trout pattern. You’re correct, they fish it in the dark.
Nice Jason. Is that fritz?
I was told the idea is that the dark fly stands out against the night sky and fish looks up. A lighter color fly might look more muted from below. Can you or someone explain why dark colors work better in low light (and vice versa maybe)? It’s always been counterintuitive to me.
I’m not so sure there’s no place in fishing for these. There are some spring creeks and tailwaters where these would be just the ticket at certain times…provided you had the 7.5X tippet to go with.Usually on hooks 20 and below there is no point putting dubbing on shank but I tried. In general, this is kind of joke ... There is no place in fishing, for small flies like below. It is on size 26 FireholeIt is easier to make tenkara fly and works well.

I would like to file a protest!
Big game trolling in Hawaii...dark sky, dark lures...light sky, light lures...it sounds counter-intuitive...but it worksI was told the idea is that the dark fly stands out against the night sky and fish looks up. A lighter color fly might look more muted from below.
And the completed set, for anyone persnickety who was bothered by the unfilled grooves on the ramekin.View attachment 139890
Stocking up the armory. Wake up people, it’s an odd numbered year. The humpies must be repelled.

Nice fly! Size 22 again?
