Instead of trimming the butts of the Congo Hair wingpad, I split the tag ends and tied them back on either side, adding a bit more sparkle and floatation.

Tail: snowshoe foot (don't cut the butt ends)
Body: rust dyed snowshoe foot
Wing: butt ends of tail. Add a folded slip of turkey if you like. Sometimes I add double knotted PT fibers on the underside for legs here. But it gets simpler as the fly gets smaller.
Collar and head: spun deer hair

Trying out a new pattern....the Yardsale. Matt Grajewski's pattern.

I didn't have any of his flash slink synthetic, but I had some strung fuzzy fiber that worked really well in addition to bucktail. I also went with a little less flash than the original pattern. Ultimately many of those things really don't matter anyway since I'm a firm believer that action is the number one thing one should be shooting for, then color (that said, any color as long as it's black)....how's that for a pile of bullshit!?

4/0 Ahrex TP 610 up front, 4/0 Ahrex Aberdeen Predator (would be about a 2/0 TP610) in the back, rattle buried in there as well.

I don't normally like fishing 2 hooks, but we'll see.

yes, I realize the back end looks out of whack, it's bucktail that will lay down once wet and I was too lazy to go redo the photo (or trim it)

Looking good
Those saddles sit down quite a bit when wet as well
