What's in your vise?

Those should also work for larger trout along brushlines.

That's what I hear but so far, no luck fooling trout.

Tied some Steelhead flies. Fished them on the Hoh for the last 2 days. They didn't work...well I caught 2 trout and a whitefish, but they didn't work for the intended target.

Still had a great time. My buddy learned how to cast a spey rod, and we embraced the struggle.

Those trout and whitefish were extremely lucky to get a chance to eat such a beauty...those are very pretty. I like the throating feathers, what is it, BEP with a rooster overtop? Can’t tell but did you wrap it and then cut the top or maybe I just can’t see against the dark.

Thank you for the comments!

It's actually H 😬. One has teal my buddy harvested and then pink saddle hackle over the top. The other has wood duck the same buddy harvested and then the same pink saddle hackle.

I did not cut the top. I strip one side one all of the feathers, and then stroke down afterwords. If they are webby enough, they stay in place on the lower half of the hook.

I really like the second one, and good to know on the throat. I don’t throat often enough and seeing yours makes me want to thank you for the tips 🤙

Is H😬 this stuff? It’s definitely one of my favorite materials on summer flies.

Got bored Sunday as fishing was slow so started looking for seaglass. I noticed a bunch of pretty nice feathers lying on the beach. I threw a few in my pack and cleaned them up after I got home.
My buddy John has caught some big cutts on flies tied with beach feathers, so I thought I’d give it a try. I really like the gray color of some of them.
Here are the first two soft hackles.
