I’ll never forget my mom telling me the story of the first time she had hamachi in Japan back in the early 70’s…after eating some hamachi sashimi, she loved it and asked her server, who did not speak much English, what the name of the fish was…to which she replied “hamachi”…my mom then said “I don’t want to know how much it costs, just the name”…this went on for a few rounds until she realized what the name of the fish was…

It's the fish I judge all sushi restaurants by. If I've not eaten there previously, I'll order a beer and a negi-hama roll...the first bite is usually a pretty good indicator of how the rest of the meal will go. I've only had to leave after the "first-roll test" a handful of times, and most of those were because the house was trying to pass off Escolar as Hamachi.

Still time to make it to Metropolitan Market for their annual Peach O Rama event. Not just any store bought peaches. Sweet juicy perfection!
They'll be around for another month. I picked up 4 each of Rich Lady and O'Henry yesterday. My wife and I will eat one peach a day. Soooo good

I think it's the slimieness that turns me off, but I normally, absolutely, hate cabbage or saurkraut for the most part. The only way I can tolerate it is in a Reuben. Then, it's what holds the flavors together and I'm ok with it for some reason.

I'm guessing you aren't a fan of okra if "slimy" is a turn off. My wife and I eat natto quite often (love it) - interesting slickness to say the least.
