WDFW Digital license

I logged in before I left this morning, and screen shotted the license screen. No service where I was and COULD NOT figure out how to access the catch card as I couldn't get past the first screen. I can get it at home now.

I'm exited for my first encounter with WDFW law enforcement! Once I got the license I removed the password option on my phone. This renders the app useless. Why did I do it? It slows down the process of getting the camera going on my phone. Not putting up with that.

When the LEO and I meet up he's going to have to wait for me to go to settings and password protect my phone. Those of you old enough probably remember Tim Conway on the old Carol Burnett show. Specifically the character of the old guy with messed up gray hair that shuffled his feet a couple inches at a time and fucked up everything he touched - very slooowly. That will be me...

Well this digital license could be a train wreck waiting to happen. MyWDFW app logged me out, and now won't let me log in. How to explain that to an enforcement officer???

Think I'll take Tom's advise and create a screenshot of my current information from the WDFW website.

Don't worry...the WDFW officer can simply look up your actual license status on his vehicle computer....if they have cell coverage! And, at worst (assuming you have no outstanding bench warrants), you'll probably be able to explain the situation to the judge! 😳

I went with paper this year, and will continue to do so by printing it out (and taking a photo) myself in future years.

Protip...never buy a Discovery Pass from one of their vending machines at a state park....it will fade quite rapidly sitting from the sun while hanging on the mirror (yes, I know it recommends taking it down each time you are driving but who the hell does that? It's a recipe for a citation because you'll forget to hang it back up).

My vendor machine Discovery Pass did completely fade out a couple month's into the season and it was a PITA to get another one from the state without forking out for another Discovery Pass purchase. I now buy them at a state park headquarters....apparently the vending machine passes aren't durable because they figure only day pass purchases will be made at those locations.

I had a related experience, the app will not install properly unless my cellphone had a password/biometrics/swipe pattern enabled, I prefer no screen locked/security enabled for similar reasons to @_WW_ , not only for easy camera access but for any other use of the phone (map, text, time, calls, etc) where you just want to easy swipe or power button to get it going.
Other issues I encountered is the app going in and out of Field Mode due to "Poor network connection" even with strong 4G or WiFi. Not sure if related to that but yesterday I logged in the digital catch record card a blackmouth right after keeping it, saved it, yet somehow the entry was gone when I opened the app while talking with the WDFW sampler at the ramp answering how the app was working. I re-entered the kept salmon thinking I had done something wrong earlier. This morning I have 2 entries for kept blackmouth for yesterday. They have a link and an online form for entry "mistakes", waiting to get it resolved, wondering what would have happened if instead of a sampler I had found WDFW enforcement with either a kept fish and no entry or entries over the daily limit due to app malfunction. Looks like quite a few kinks to iron out on the digital release.Screenshot_20260405-090042_MyWDFW.jpgScreenshot_20260405-085954_Chrome.jpg

Simple

Give the Leo your name and they will look you up.

Very simple.....if you know your name.

The extra blackmouth entry error I posted about last Sunday was removed by WDFW today, there's a link to a form to request a correction or report an issue and an actual staff corresponded by email. The issue on the app going in and out of Field Mode even with strong WiFi still remains...

WDFW just posted more information on options for fish and crab record cards:

Ok, figured out the catch record thing. Apparently I'm an idiot. I swear I clicked on catch record when I purchased my Fish Washington with CRSSE license. I guess I didn't. So even though it's free, you still have to put it in your cart. I "purchased" it today and, sure enough, I have an electronic catch record.
With all the online shopping I do you'd think I could get this right. I'll just...

I did the same thing last year, but with the paper license, and didn't realize it till I got to Neah for a 2 day guided trip

It might not have been you. I'm sure I had it in the cart, but like you the catch card didn't show so I added that alone.

I went full digital. I am concerned that login is going to be an issue in the field (when you really need it), but we'll see.

I like that catch reporting has all the catch codes listed with their locations. I harvest less than a dozen fish a year, so I don't remember catch codes very well. I do wonder how well the offline thing will work in the field....

I suspect enforcement may be in for more than a few headaches trying to verify people's information when it hasn't been uploaded to WDFW's records. Still plenty of places you can get checked where there is no cell coverage. Maybe it's slicker than I am envisioning, but I think this will have a period of adaptation before it meets its potential.

I got an email from WDFW yesterday about the apps. For anyone experiencing trouble maybe this can help

Who do I contact if I need help?
