UNOFFICIAL NHL 26-27 Season Chat

I know that there are more hockey fans out there. Let's hear from you. Who is your team? What are the chances of making the playoffs this year for your team? Where do you hail from?
Grew up in Montreal; the Canadiens are my team; chances for playoffs look good; 'bout time for the cup to make its way back to Montreal, where it belongs ...

In Kansas now? My family were season ticket holders for the Sharks since their beginning. I moved to Portland and have added the Kraken and Cannucks to my like list.

Nice game tonight Kraken !!!!

Nope, spent a total of about 15 years in Kansas, then went to Bend when we became empty nesters, now reside in the Poconos of Pennsylvania.

Sharks fan here. I grew up in the South Bay Area. When I was a kid, my dad would take all of us to the Cow Palace to watch the San Francisco Seals play. Eventually the team moved across the bay when they built the Oakland Coliseum and became the California Golden Seals of the NHL. I remember sparse crowds, good seats and losing ha ha. By the time the Sharks came to San Jose - I was out of the Bay Area. One of my brothers still has season tickets so we catch a few games a year at the Tank. It's a great place to watch ice hockey.

I never had any exposure to hockey during my formative years and never developed an interest for it. Besides, I'm a hard core fly fisherman; I don't have time for any sissy sports. (Badly misquoted from something I read on some internet forum in the distant past.)

i didn't get exposed till i went to college in alberta - which was 1987 - so i got exposed when the oilers and flames were at their zenith, and fell hard for the game from the first small town action i saw in-person. speed, contact, skill, finesse, teamwork, actual toughness. what a revelation!

ffwd, and we finally get an nhl team. super-dumb cartoon name courtesy of the same thinking that brought us the mighty ducks, and as boring a roster as only the personality of ron francis could envision - which means it will only be another 10 years before they are consistently competitive. slow and steady wins the race? on the other hand, they fit right in here in seattle. hyperventilating fans, sky-high prices, predictable failure.

I used to watch Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL) especially when they played Portland. Huge rivalry!

I have not watched the Kraken yet, unfortunately. Maybe I should...

The lower body injury to Macklin Celebrini is not good news for the Sharks. Sounds like he may be out for at least two weeks - we'll see how the team responds.

Isn't hockey mostly mayhem on ice where some people are trying to figure out if they can develop an athletic sport out of it?
only at the levels where most of the roster has no chance to get to the highest level. the bulk of the worst players are competing for the tiny handful of remaining nhl goon-ish jobs you are describing. the higher the level, and the more meaningful the game, the less of that performative bullshit will materialize. and when the violence does appear in those games - it will be the compelling kind. not a jake paul fight. murder in their hearts.

to see the real thing now, you really have to watch an nhl playoff game - or a late season game with playoff implications. a game that counts. as with all of pro sports now (except the nfl, -ish), the regular season isn't worth watching cause there's just too many games for any one of them to matter to the athletes - who by and large are so financially secure, and so deficient in proper pride, there's no remaining incentive to give their best every night.

the last best place (at the professional level) to see what sport is meant to be is an nhl playoff elimination game with two teams that have a legit chance to go all the way.
