I do not know the demographics of this site but many have never been in a war nor seen the atrocities created by war. They do not have a frame of reference to relate to. Our older members that have been through WWII, Korean conflict, Vietnam war, etc. do not talk about it. They have seen it, lived it and survived it. They want to forget the unspeakable but never will be able to...

I think our news sources are doing a dis-service. Yes, they say it will get worse before it gets better. Then immediately show a 5 minute clip on refugees. Is that what people think it's going to be in the near future?

Show what happened in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Show what carpet bombing looks like in Iraq. Show what happened in Germany and UK during the air raids. Modern bombs, delivery mechanisms, artillery, planes and information sources of real time data is so much bigger, badder, faster, more accurate, more lethal it will put to shame what has been done in the past. That is what we are trying to avoid!

Lets hope the current and next generation do not have to live and remember what war is about like our current living generations have been through.

Peace and prosperity for all...

I think the families and friends of the 7000+ U.S. servicemen killed in Iraq and Afghanistan the last 20 years might disagree with this assessment. Most of them later phase Gen X’rs and millennials.

I think anyone who fought against ISIS is well aware of the atrocities committed in war. Not as sure about Afghanistan but since it's the same group of fine young men I am not sure that matters.

At this point NATO forces could expell Russian troops from Kyiv and surrounding areas in a matter of hours then the rest of the country in a matter of days and put a stop to all this madness.

Ok, the following is a,bit of a political hit piece, but its written by a fellow veteran who has watched Putin closely.
All rhetoric aside, it helps bring perspective. Please try to absorb it objectively :

The Hill: Vladimir Putin provides an eye-opener for his GOP fans in America | TheHill.

I'm going to refrain from replying to this....

Sorry the first sentence was more or less a lie. So didn't read it.

Let's try to avoid the political stuff so the thread can stay open and not turn into a WFF type of shitshow full of bullshit posted by morons.

You can always send a PM and tell the other motherfcker just how full of sh!t he is, and arrange to meet up so you can kick his ass.
:)
😆 😆 😆

Thank you for the explanation.
The implication is that Trump didn't legitimately win the election. That is ALL I meant.
I don’t interpret the sentence to say that. I take it at face value. Won with support. Doesn’t say the support resulted in the win. But we can move on from this. More about the author in case you are at all interested and might look again: “Jim Jones is a Vietnam combat veteran who served eight years as Idaho attorney general (1983-1991) and 12 years as a justice on the Idaho Supreme Court (2005-2017). He is currently a regular contributor to The Hill.”

I hate to "like" ....but fuck, I hate that I kinda feel helpless over in my corner of the US.
Man....I totally hear you and agree. It is a shitty feeling watching this brutality play out on the news. And it really makes the pettiness of so many aspects of our own culture seem ridiculous by comparison. I tried watching a piece on how MLB players feel they're getting "screwed by the owners" and they flashed the average MLB salary on the screen. I had to change the channel...

Then I saw a piece on how Russia, China and India are joining hands and will soon trade with each other completely outside the purview of the US dollar. That can have devastating effects on our own economy. So that is risky and potentially dangerous for us.

Then I see ten pieces on unprecedented international condemnation and coordination and responses to this brutal attack and I feel maybe humanity has a chance and perhaps we'll finally band together and put a stop to the predations of this cold blooded killer.

It's like we live on top of a giant emotional seesaw these days. Which sucks.

I've been donating to help feed the victims in and outside Ukraine. In some tiny little way, it makes me feel slightly less helpless.

“There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.”

Speak for yourself.

I have been preparing myself for this, mentally, for years. I will first do a flawless double round house kick. I will then throw a hadoken at the assailant. Then all the babes will want to make out with me. That's how it's gonna go.

A bar fight and a night or two in jail should be on a pre forty bucket list for any man of dimension and character. The most interesting men I know don't wonder about these things. They are quietly dangerous with a calm that makes friends feel secure and foes feel uneasy. If it hasn't happened by forty then the time for a righteous brawl is gone. After that it's just an old drunk causing trouble. You should loose one as well, badly. Temperance for what one does to their enemies isn't a weakness. There is great strength in pardoning someone of violence even if they are asking for it. You won't know when until you're gained some experience with such things.

That's not what the linked article says. All it says is that Trump was endorsed by Putin, which is true.

I will go a step further, though. I highly doubt China and Russia have directly manipulated polls, as some folks believe. However, anyone that thinks China and Russia aren't influencing American voters is living under a rock. Their bots are all over the internet, spreading propaganda everywhere they can. For example, there is ample proof that anti-vax and QAnon type content has been used to create havoc in the US.

I was "right on" with your view up until this article and other media outlets starting shedding a different side to the story. I don't think the comments you are addressing are as tone deaf as you might think. And yes, I have seen the thousands of Russian dissenters/protestors arrested. Brave people ruled by autocratic insanity!

I'll bet at least that many Americans supported going into Iraq on the premise that we sort of think there are WMD's there. There weren't, at least that we found, and we went to war for basically George's personal feelings and Cheney's financial gain. That doesn't mean those Americans are mean spirited. It means that they believe the bad information the government they trust gives them. Happens all the time and some believe the same lies over and over told different ways.

My post about throwing hadokens and winning the babes shouldn't have provoked a serious response. 😂

In any case, I will offer an alternative perspective. I have been in exactly zero bar fights, because I'm not a psychopath that goes looking for such things and I'm capable of defusing/avoiding them. However, I have witnessed a number of my friends engage in such activities. I've learned everything I need to know from that. Ie. not to get in bar fights.

Going looking makes one an asshole. To not slink away at signs of trouble makes you secure. And I said interesting men of dimension and character.

Some people learn the smart and easy way by observing others. As a young jarhead I was not one of those people, but I'd like to think I got better at doing so as I aged.

My dimensions did indeed expand, and some people have told me I'm a character...is that what you mean? 😆

The rivers are all closed. What boat launch would I suggest for the fisticuffs? If I'm leaving the house ins pandemic for that I need some fishing to justify the gas.

Closed to fishing..not to fighting.
Behind the trailer park is always good, as is the local Mini Mart/Wal Mart.
Be creative, in a pinch you can always use the fly shop parking lot.
