Maybe we should consult with Greta Thunberg on what should be done. Time Person of the Year, 2019. Noted European deep thinker and person of action, Nobel Peace Prize nominee, “Doctor honoris causa” from the University of Mons, and many many more awards of note. She’s probably got some good ideas if we could get her excused from her high school geometry class.
I’m sorry. Sometimes I just can’t help myself. The juxtaposition of what were perceived as existential threats yesterday compared to what has happened in the last five days create a stark contrast of what are true imminent threats to people’s lives and what are threats we need to deal with in an evolutionary fashion every day, slowly but surely. As a society, we need to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time. It’s not OK to worry single-mindedly about how to combat the very real risk of rising global temperatures, while in fact, our inattention to evil in our midst results in the world actually burning.
BTW - insert your favorite issue du jour instead of the one I picked. The thought remains the same. We must be able to confront evil, while dealing with all the other injustices and concerns, too. Can’t ignore any of them.
Sorry for the screed. Fire at will.
