I just gritted my teeth. In the early 1990's (post 1991) Ukraine was a mess of mafia and oligarchs but they had really turned a corner to develop a western economy. They still have a long way to go, but they are trying.

I was in Birobidgeon( splg?) in the late summer of 91 we were warned in that wild west Jewish “autonomous” community to stay in our rooms at night as there had been a rash of muggings and thefts inflicted on western visitors. I and my partner the chief curator thought we would bestayin at night…

Everything I read in the MSM , well all media really has been he might invade, potential invasion. But the people that are talking to now are saying. Yeah we knew it was a done deal based on what Putin said around Christmas.
Most of the news I have been reading is MSNBC and Fox. In short one extreme left and one center right.

Heard Lt Colonel Vindman (remember him?) say several weeks ago the Russia would invade, full on, with the largest ground invasion since WWII, if you listen, it was there.

Why? I just went back and re read your original post. I wish we had those days back too, with the common decency standards that mediated reporting.
My quip about hiding under the bed was me being my normal cynical wise guy self, riffing off of -WW-' s gaff.
Honestly, i think not mentioning alternative news sources outside our perceived MSM echo chamber is doing everyone a disservice . Good grief, we can't all be involved in lock step group think. That wouldn't get us anywhere.

1991 was scary, our company was thinking about buying plants and I was on an evaluation team, we had quite the entourage...can you imagine a cash transaction for a steel plant? Truck loads of cash and guns to protect it. We bought a couple of Czech plants but stayed away from Ukraine and Russia. My bosses were so afraid of Russia we drove from Finland for 12 hours to a plant in Russia just to avoid any populated areas.

I was last in Ukraine in 2015 and it was exciting, Putin should be afraid...we joked that Ukrainians were going to take over the world! Aggressive by nature and optimistic by youth!

Edit: We were dealing with the devil...how does a plant owned by the collective become owned by one man who has the right sell it? Someday this man will own the Chelsea FC.

We went 25 pages without mentioning US political sides/issues. It is very refreshing to say the least. I know I have learned so much in the last few days. I am fairly certain others have too.

Here's a redirection....why don't we attack Russia?...they deserve it...it's because they have nucs...so if Iran gets nucs and attacks Israel what do we do? Watch and sanction. It's time to stop Iranian enrichment.

I for one only mentioned it only as a reference to the fact that I observe multiple sources with a wide variety of viewpoints. I made no value based statements other than to describe the views of a couple sources.

If you really think one of those is "center right" someone has sold you some bad medicine.

To be fair, it does depend which parts of Fox News or Fox "News" that you consume. Chris Wallace was about as close to the center as you will ever find, in this country. In comparison, Hannity and Tucker are obviously not. If you average them out though, particularly by viewership, the argument for Fox being anywhere near moderate is tenuous at best. You can make a similar argument for CNN and MSNBC, but the distribution is narrower and less of the viewership is on the extremes. I'm a filthy liberal and I have watched more Tucker and Hannity than Maddow and Lemon. It was mostly for laughs (or horror), but the views still count.
