If you have internet service at your house, get a super box. 2000+ channels with almost every possible sporting event known to mankind, and about 13,000 movies on file.
I've have a couple ( 1 for each tv ) for about four to five years.
 
I have been very happy with Sony Bravia LED TVs, on my third or fourth one now. I upgrade to a bigger size when they get less expensive--currently on a 65" from Costco. You might think you don't want a big TV, but then you'll be watching your sports, or a movie, and be glad of it.

You save a lot by getting an LED TV instead of an "OLED" TV. OLED has deeper blacks, I think. I think this is the one I have, a few hundred dollars cheaper than when I bought it:


An aftermarket sound bar with subwoofer (or home sound system) improves the experience a lot!
 
Get a Samsung at Costco.

Chances are, the TV may only have a digital audio output, like HDMI ARC, Toslink or Coax. If your stereo is old school, you may only have analog (RCA) inputs. If so, you may need a media converter, streamer, or some other way to get to analog. They're pretty cheap, though.

Digital inputs on my stereo, so covered there

Went to Costco yesterday to look at screens, did my specs comparison and review readings the past couple days.

Some very large TV's there
 
TV? I think I might have an old B&W portable under that mound of ancient sanskrit manuscripts I've been translating for years....

As I recall there wasn't anything worth watching back in 1972...has anything changed?

Seemed like a good way to drain your very existence away.

I agree , bought one for the bedroom , 55" . I got mine at Walmart . It was closer than Costco , and next day delivery , didn't have to mess around going to get it . It's been a great TV , totally surprised at the picture , and price. I have had Sony , LG, Samsung ,and Vizio , none of them were any better . Got a Vizio now in the living room ,wouldn't recommend it to anyone , got a good deal on it , just not that great of TV. It will be another Hisense for me when that Vizio needs to be replaced .

I don't know what kind of feed they do in those big stores like Costco , and Walmart . But they have the optimum picture , not subject to the reception we get from cable satellite etc. You get them home ,not quite the picture in the stores .

They play special demo loops with uncompressed data.

I'm the last person to talk about techy new stuff since I've had my 55" 4K LG for around 4-5 years and didn't pay much for it then. But, I'm still kinda following this thread just cause I may want to upgrade within the next year or two.

I will agree with everyone about the need for some additional sound system as the speakers on the TVs seem to be shit. Not needing a ton out of mine, just a little better sound, I just went with the base model Bose sound bar and absolutely love it.

65" is a pretty good size ,thats what I have in the living room . 75" would work for us ,any bigger would be too big . As said the 65" Vizio we have now will be replaced with a Hisense, for the money it seems like a good choice from the experience we have had with 55" we got in the bedroom .
