Help me understand 12+ (fiberglass?)....
lol, yeah. it's a Mike McFarland designed and rolled Seele 8'2" 12wt. It's a beast (I've fished it for musky a couple of times....not great fun), but an absolute fish tamer. I fish a 650gr on it....lol.

Mike still offers these rods (I think) but Seele as a company is now defunct.

dumb question. What’s a flat fall?
My least favorite kind of jig 😂

They're a jig you let flutter down and kind of vary the fall by thumbing the spool intermittently. Let it down to your desired depth then bring back up and repeat.

gross...first Nick shows a Tenkara pic and then Evan throws up some gross little lure pics.

Getting in to the worst part and judging all jigs on that is just not fair 😂

Oh I've seen and/or fished all of them. Not judging, I just hate jigging lol. I can tolerate flat falls cause I can just plop them over the rail and watch albacore zip around and smack them as they fall, but that's as much hardware as I'm willing to tie on to a non troll rod.

Yeah it's the whole boat for that. So there ya go, you've got thousands of nights, I've got zero. I'm under no illusion that all nights off the coast of Washington are magical and I certainly understand how it can go when you pick your charter date 8 months in advance. It's just something I want to try.
I'm in. Sounds like fun!

I’ve caught a few on my 10wt iconoglass. We were all newbs that day, but it is a bendy rod that doesn’t lend itself to the quick short pulls to keep their heads up. I fish a couple of echo boosts and a one piece tamer.

Bamboo for tuna isn't a new thing. Leave it to fly fishers to try to reinvent the wheel ;)

“Tuna fishermen, when they hit the jackpot, are big earners and free-handed spenders.”

Don’t underestimate the generosity of a tuna fisher after a great day offshore. And on payday, they might just buy any old bauble or trinket you dangle in front of them.

Anyone going bamboo for albacore?
@Kado built and fished one either last year or the year before. Beautiful rod, made me jealous.

Another acquaintance on the same trip had a custom Oyster bamboo rod built just for Westport tuna, talked it up for weeks, then somehow brought 1/3rd of the 12wt and 2/3rds of his Oyster bamboo 5wt, leaving the rest back in Utah. Which he discovered on the tuna grounds. I almost pissed my pants I was laughing so hard.

Holy shit. Thats like a $6k mistake. But considering he has two Oysters, he probably can afford a second tuna trip ;)
