Well, the 8'2" is really more of a 14wt. I fish a 650gr on it.

My 7'9" is called a 10/11 that punches at a 12wt level.

Any open seats on a Tuna trip in July? I know it's early for Albacore, but it looks like I'll be back in town next month for an extended period for the first time since I left in early 2022 for Citrus County. I miss that fishery!

Does anybody measure the amount of drag they have on their tuna reels, or how many pounds of drag you use? I get about 5 lbs on my Danielson and closer to 10 lbs on my Sage Spectrum C.

I measure by giving it a few tugs and saying "that feels about right."
I do that too, and it doesn't feel quite right. Maybe next time I see him, I'll have to have Clarkman give me a few tugs and see if it feels right.

Nick will tell you that you don’t fight a tuna with the drag.

I always thought that around 4lbs was about the max one would use for even larger salty fish...can't remember where I heard that from....prolly here or some Facebook group arguing or something....😆

I normally start out with the tug test, setting is around 80% of max drag and adjust accordingly.
Their size varies from year to year.

Oh yeah, it's a brawl not a chase. Just want to make sure I can lock it up for the brawl!

You can adjust it on the Danielsson. Problem is when you increase the max you also increase the min. Andy had his set way too light last year :)

I'm just across the river if you need a gear-competent, non-barfing, seat filler to help cover gas/ice/bait. Just say'n.
It's almost like you're dissing on non-gear-competent, barfing seat filler :).
