NFR The time switch sucks!

Does switching the clock twice a year suck?

The time change has to be one of the dumbest things in the world. I assume politicians did this for some jerkoff reason. I read once it was supposed to help farmers. I have worked in the agriculture industry before. Farmers don’t care what the clock says or fr that matter what the calendar says. The ground, weather and the crops themselves will determine what the farmers need to do.
Daylight Savings originated in WW1 to conserve lighting energy costs for the war production factories that were running 12 hour day shifts.
And then it was repealed in 1919 after the war for being a PIA.
And then it was re-introduced during WW2 for the same reasons.
And then it was repealed again right after the war for being a PIA.
And then it was made permanent by the Uniform Time Act of 1966.
And then in 2022 a bill called the "Sunshine Protection Act" was passed in the Senate to make DST permanent nationwide, but stalled in the House due to lobbying efforts from multiple groups.

form your own opinion on this sterling example of government for the people, certainly have mine

Another odd time factiod: The NST Time Zone in Newfoundland has a half hour time offset. Crazy Canadalanders! Gotta love 'em

Imagine living near the equator. Everyday of the year the sun is up at 7am and dark at 7pm. Predictable but monotonous.
The forced innovation of harvesting, preserving and storing food during periods of low sun and low heat necessitates invention, adaption, planning, ways to otherwise occupy time if not harvesting, figuring out fuel etc.... All of that innovation has brought us to a "high point" of alternate reality, virtual worlds, and artificial intelligence.

In this world there are many people who, over a course of their lifetime, will eat their allotment of time, hours if not years of it, in screen attentions and entertainments that are mostly meaningless. Some of those hours will include passionate debates on the merits of daylight savings....

As much as grown-ass men and my wife moan about say daylight savings time shifts, if I had a choice about seasonal indignities, it wouldn't be time that I'd waste my whines on.

It would be weather, specifically November, December and January sparing some of their "wet joy" with June, July and the pre-salmon part of August.

People make such a bid deal of this, yet seem to have no problem crossing multiple time zones to go to, say, Hawaii - they seen to love to go.

Now what messes me up, is going above the arctic circle and having no darkness or no light - in the summer, in Pond Inlet, kids were out playing at 2 AM - go figure.

cheers

Not to be out done by their Canadian brethren Australia boasts three of their six time zones offset from the usual 1 hour difference—South Australia (Adelaide) and the Northern Territories (Darwin) are offset by 30 minutes while the central section of Western Australia (Eucla) is offset by 45 minutes. It can get confusing when traveling around as a tourist for the first time.

No wonder they love to fight.

After living in Hawaii for four decades and not having to deal with daylight savings, it is kinda weird to have to change the watch…just the other day, I showed up at a store that should have been open, but I had forgot to change the time on my wrist

That just reminded me of last Sunday ,we had a 10:40 tee time . Golfing buddy called me at about 9:30 , and asked where are you we tee off in 10 minutes , of course my reply was I am still home , will be leaving in about 10-15 minutes see you about 10:15 . Told him to relax , have another cup of coffee . What surprises me is , I guess they didn't tell him in the club house or he didn't understand or whatever that he was an hour early . Had to explain to him the time change ,and it finally dawned on him . Of course he's 78 ,that might explain some of it ,being 78 myself .:)

Just another stupid move by someone in govt to piss the rest of us off. Like so many other things, just leave the Clock alone. It's doing better without your 'adjustments'. My furry alarm clocks are still waking up at their usual time and don't really care what the official time is, they just want to be fed.
Our dog has his schedule ,and he could care less what that clock says .

Here's my thoughts.
1. Switching back and forth has zero value in reality. Seriously none. So pick one and leave it alone.
2. I'd WAY rather have more light in the evening so I prefer DST.

Now here's an interesting tid bit. I leave for Argentina on Thursday so looked up the time there so I could figure out the difference between there and here at home. Discovered that Argentina also has DST...well sort of. You think our government is messed up on this? Well get this. They actually vote each year to determine if they are going to use it for that year or not.......LOL

On June 20/21 this year I watched, along with the A/F family, the Fairbanks vs Anchorage Midnight Sun Game in Fairbanks as part of the Alaska Collegiate Baseball League. Game started promptly at 10:00 PM and finished around 1:30 AM. With Zero lights. It think it was the 100th Midnight Sun game. Great time.
I could care less one way or the other. I’ve been an hour late or an hour early a few times but really now..?
I am fortunate I that I could, and have, lain down on floors in airports and other less than tolerable places and induced myself to sleep for an hour. I think of it as self hypnotizing trick. Couldn’t sleep for crap as a kid.
