Daylight Savings originated in WW1 to conserve lighting energy costs for the war production factories that were running 12 hour day shifts.The time change has to be one of the dumbest things in the world. I assume politicians did this for some jerkoff reason. I read once it was supposed to help farmers. I have worked in the agriculture industry before. Farmers don’t care what the clock says or fr that matter what the calendar says. The ground, weather and the crops themselves will determine what the farmers need to do.
And then it was repealed in 1919 after the war for being a PIA.
And then it was re-introduced during WW2 for the same reasons.
And then it was repealed again right after the war for being a PIA.
And then it was made permanent by the Uniform Time Act of 1966.
And then in 2022 a bill called the "Sunshine Protection Act" was passed in the Senate to make DST permanent nationwide, but stalled in the House due to lobbying efforts from multiple groups.
