The "How was your weekend?" thread...

I'm off to a secret Okanogan lake with lots of camping spots next week and so needed to pick up my pram from a friend's place on Whidbey where I store it to avoid the ferry costs. My kids were home for mothers day and my daughter was up for the road trip/ferry rise and a few hrs fishing on a nearby lake. It was hotter than hell when the breeze dropped but we both caught some nice chunky troots up to around 19'. My funky black snocone and root beer chromies were the ticket. Not fast and furious but enough action to make it a fun trip. Water was ~65 and not too much algae on this lake, yet. Others were out and about so we were not alone.

Just returned from 8 days at a not secret lake in Northern California that has a 10 mph speed limit so no water skiers or jet boats. Fishing was good to better with 1@12” and rest at 16-20” with a bigger one LDR’d. One smallish 12” SMB but saw several up to 4#’s taken, wasn’t keying on them. All rainbows, bigger one may have been a brown but they are silver rather than golden this time of year and too far away to confirm. No pictures as they were what we all have seen hundreds of.

Pointe du Hoc is pretty sobering...that anyone got up those cliffs without getting killed is amazing. Enjoy the race, a sellout again this year. My favorite viewing area is Indy / Arnage ever since they redid the berm.

Sounds like you’ve been there, I’ll have to look for that. I’ve been told the Tetre Rouge (sp?) corner after dark is excellent as well. We have VIP passes with seating/food/bar right above Alpine pits as trip I’m on is sponsored by majority owner of Renault. Hoping to get a ride along in a 2-seater before the race.

Yes, five times. Tetre Rouge is nice, but doesn't have the variety of Indy / Arnage. The run into Indy is the fastest place on the course, and Arnage is the slowest, so there is a lot going on there. The VIP treatment sounds like a lot of fun, but try to get out amongst the 'unwashed masses' to sample the spectacle. You'll be wading through a hoard of drunken Englishmen. Early Sunday morning is my favorite time. Also, the pre race celebration / parade in the town square on Thursday (?) is pretty cool. too. There is so much to do and see.....How long are you going to be there?

That sounds awesome, thanks for the tip. I’ll be certain to mingle with “the great unwashed” as I want to find some Grand Marnier crepes. The Parade is Friday and on the agenda, we arrive that morning and tour a new Claas tractor factory then lunch and parade. Claas tractor is a German company that my son in law sells and they are picking up the trip. Return to Paris Sunday night after the finish where I’ll stay a couple extra days and visit Normandy and poke around Paris.

Sadly, Grand Marnier crepes were nowhere to be found the last time I was there....and I was looking hard. They were a 'must do' on my previous visits. Maybe your caterer ? My wife serves them for breakfast while I watch the race...she's Serbian, and crepes were a staple when she was growing up. Have fun!

Weeked? What weekend??

I retired Friday, the 12th , after 23 years with that employer.
Since then it's been a full on charge to get everything ready for the 8000 mile round trip vacation haul starting this coming week. That includes full tear down, repacking, and over haul of the wheel bearings on the pop up while K and Abby get the rest of the details ironed out .

let's see, "how was my weekend?" It was pretty damn good. I dropped off one inflatable boat, picked up another, had lunch with my niece and her fiance, and the highlight was seeing my kid completely immersed in their element at an animation event (it's actually a 2 night thing). Plus, they got to meet a friend they've been animating with and playing online video games with who lives in Australia in person for the first time in 6+ years of friendship and collaboration. That's pretty fuckin' cool!

Very fucking cool!!

Spent the weekend doing yard work in between morning and evening hatches. Caught some small rainbows in the 10-12" range. Got skunked for the first time this year at the local hole across the road from me. Some A-hole from town bought the RV park that borders it to have as a weekend place. Not sure it it was at the new owner's instruction or if he took it upon himself, but the grounds keeper wacked all the grass along the bank. And it's not even on his property. I'm guessing that contributed to the lack of fish.
Had about a 2' steelie roll 20' in front of me a couple of times yesterday morning. Couldn't get it to take a second look at my fly though. PMD's were hatching off so I threw a couple of different ones with no luck. Tried stripping a small streamer too with no luck.

NFR. Spent a long weekend in Redmond, WA. The reason? My 9 year old grandson has begun playing (U - 10) with a select soccer team, Black Hills FC. Some random thoughts: a construction worker who joins one of the contractors working on I-405 has a job for life. I remember when there was no I-405, and since it started the construction activity has been continuous ever since. And the weekday traffic couldn't be more gridlocked. I find it hard to believe people actually live like this. Microsoft. I know it's a big company, but holy shit! 502 acres, 125 buildings, and nearly 50,000 employees at the Redmond campus. Very cosmopolitan town with many Asian and more Indian people than I've ever seen in one place. Instead of the usual assortment of McDonalds and Burger Kings, etc., the restaurant scene is dominated by Indian and various Asian restaurants. Unfortunate for me since Indian food is too spicy hot for this Scandinavian. We did happen upon a Thai restaurant - Bai Tong - that is totally next level above any and all other Thai restaurants we have eaten at. Of course I have to order all my dishes at 1* for spicy heat. But wow, that food was good! Housing: Condos and apartments predominate, in contrast to my neighborhood where lot sizes are measured in acres. And Teslas are as common in Redmond as Subarus are in Olympia.

And we were there because of soccer. Multiple tournaments going on at Redmond's 60 Acres Park with about two dozen soccer fields. My grandson and one teammate have been on the same youth team since age 5, and one other player was on their summer youth league team last summer. But basically it's a new team and new coach all learning to work together. Friday was their first ever game together, and they lost 4-0. Saturday they played a good team from Hawaii and won, 2-0. Sunday they played a local King Co. team named Liverpool and won, 6-0. (My grandson scored 3 of his team's goals; gotta' brag a little bit!) This got them to the semi-finals Monday where they played undefeated Kitsap. It was a tense match, and they lost 2-0. Select soccer is sure going to be interesting. Not sure how we're going to afford much of this. We're out well over $1,000 for hotel and restaurant expenses for a 4-day weekend. My Social Security wasn't designed with this in mind. It's sure gratifying to watch the kids' skills develop. But I think I'll get back to fishing this week; that's something I can afford.

Got to see my oldest son's (in the black) girlfriend (on the stern sticks) in action on the river. She's a guide and manager for Wiley E. Waters out of Spokane. They float the Spokane and the Clark Fork. Great operation if you're interested in a fun float. They do scenic floats if whitewater is not your thing.
She's is a keeper. And a badass! My kid better not screw it up. 😁

This was on the Clark Fork. LOTS of smiles. My wife (in the white) was screaming at pretty much every big hit. Haha! The young couple on the port side are lifelong family friends that just happened to be camping in Glacier and Superior so they joined us.
LOTS of smiles. Great weekend.

Saw Red Clay Strays at the Showbox Friday night. These guys are amazing.
Brandon's throwback voice is his own, but man, he's got some Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis and Otis Redding in him. And the gospel influence is obvious. The band is also their own, but is like a 2nd coming of Lynryd Skynyrd or Allman Brothers.
So glad I finally got the chance to see them.

Their big one-
Wondering Why

A hymn-
He Will Remember Me

Another big one-
Stone's Throw
