The Green ‘26

I read they’re going to have heavy water releases this Summer, in an attempt to raise the level of Lake Powell, for power generation at Glen Cyn. Damn…
Something to check into if you’re headed that direction later this year..
If I can find it again I will post it but prior to departing there on 3/31 I read an article that stated if Flaming Gorge Reservoir was emptied completely the water level in Lake Powell would not rise a full inch.
That is the disparity in size between the two.
The guide I fish with mentioned the coming “funky discharges” in April that are actually hard releases at night generally, to help scour the river bottom and intake chambers of a moss-like substance that builds up over winter.

started raining heavily as we got off the river…it is now seriously snowing
Drove through that system around Spanish Fork yesterday. Didn't get out of it until north of Salt Lake.

The main hard releases usually occurs in early May…which is why I usually fish it late April…

I ate lunch and gassed up in Spanish Fork on my way up…
I sat in the sleet and watched my grandaughter's soccer game in that system yesterday! Can only imagine what it was like in Dutch John.

Brute, by your picture of Red Creek it looks like the flows have bumped up to over 2000. Ran it a couple weeks ago at 880 and it was bony as hell. On the A, if you are getting below Mother-in-Law later in the day into evening, thats a good time to start tossing streamers. Usually turns on. Great trip report and love to see a cuttie. About 1 a day on the upper part of the B has been my average the last few years. Good to see they are still in there.

A little sketched about releases this spring/summer. I don't like rowing it above 4000 anymore. The fishing is all in the back eddies, so all guide boats are lined up bobbering those holes, and its dicey getting under the bridge on the C over 3500cfs.

In Pinedale now, drove through a couple snow flurries on the way…and an antelope decided to race my jeep and then ran in front of me…almost had fresh game meat…

The drive up to Pinedale from Dutch John is beautiful…the mountain range to the east is spectacular, this picture does not do it justice…

Seems just like yesterday that Bridger and the boys were trading beaver pelts at the Rendevous next to the Wind Rivers. The free life!

snow and fishing..... never worked for me. not even winter steelheading
My most memorable day winter steelheadin were in the snow...used to take a snow day and go fish when I was young, then when I got older did the same.

Now I'm old like dirt, I stay home, but think about it still.

This is what the upper Green looks like here…morning was sunny and beautiful (but still 38)…but eventually clouded over and a couple storms chased us all day…but we prevailed.

We put about 15 browns like this in the boat, and a couple 19” fish…I even hooked a whitey on a white streamer…
