The good boat deal thread

13 states allow double trailers including Oregon and Montana.
interesting, been in living in Oregon for the past 19 years and have yet to see a double trailer/boat rig on the highway.
Maybe common sense prevailing

A vehicle may tow only one vehicle or trailer in
Oregon (a two-vehicle combination ORS 818.110).
Some states allow towing more than one trailer or
vehicle by non-commercial vehicles. Permits are
not allowed in Oregon for towing more than one
trailer or vehicle except for commercially titled and
registered vehicles

A buddy of mine told me this story when we were fishing couple of days ago. Thought I'd share it here as it seem to fit.

This occurred two weeks ago. A guy he knows and has fished with for over 10 years had decided after all these years to buy a boat. He's been a float tube/pontoon guy his whole life but never owned a boat. Just decided that a boat would be so much easier on him fishing wise. So he calls up my buddy and tells him this is what hes going to do and was looking for some general advice on what to look for in a good used boat.

So my friend gives him his thoughts and the guy goes off to scour the internet, Craigslist, etc. Over the next few days he sends my buddy links to ads at boats he is considering and my friend gives him his thoughts. Then the guy sends him a link and thinks maybe this is the right boat. Older Lund Rebel XL but in immaculate condition with less than 50 hours. Decent enough electronics and ok trolling motor. And it was well within is budget AND local. My buddy looks the ad over and tells him get off the phone and go buy this right now.

Well the guy procrastinates and mulls it over for a few days then calls on the ad. And you all know already the outcome. Of course it sold yesterday. So the guy is back to looking. Sends my buddy a bunch more ads and my buddy tells him that he lost out on a once in a lifetime deal but be patient and another great deal will pop up sooner or later. But the guy was bound and determined to get a boat sooner rather than later. So he bought one.

Not NEAR the great condition of the one he passed on.
Cost 50% more than the one he passed on and has no more features.
AND it was 300 miles away instead of local.

Moral of the story. Do your homework. Figure out what you really want, what you will accept, and when a boat that fits comes along. BUY THE DAMN THING NOW.

And the second moral of the story. Once you buy your boat STOP looking at ads. Sooner or later you will see a "better deal" and just piss yourself off....LOL

I adopt this approach with guitar shopping in Tokyo. Otherwise… sidetrack city!!

The wife and I bought used car years ago and after we got it home the now-ex-son-in-law got on his phone and did a search. He found a better deal, but only the one. And it was in Boise. With a gotcha look on his face he handed me the phone so I could look at it. I did and while handing him back his phone commented that I could live with getting the second best deal on the planet less than ten miles from home. What a prick.
