Tennis Elbow?

So I have developed a bit of tennis elbow. Doing the massage and strength exercises. Manageable and not keeping me from fishing. But also not getting much better and NO I am not going to stop fishing. Not happening. So my question is if any of you guys have tried a support sleeve like Copper Fit and if it helped.

TIA

I ended up getting tennis elbow from bowling. I didn't use what you'd call a sleeve but the strap type device worked well.

I get it on occasion during coho season. Not sure why some seasons I get it and some not. One or two outings with bad mechanics? More casting than usual due to fishing being slow? Something is bound to happen occasionally making 15k plus doubles hauls as far as you can over a 2.5 month period. Once you get it, it’s tough to get rid of with anything but rest in my experience. I have fished through it the two times it’s happened to me. It did not go away both times until I was back fishing SRC 1-2 times a week in winter. Less fishing/casting, less double hauling versus standing on the beach bombing the same cast for 6 straight hours multiple times a week. Once salmon season ends it has taken months to go away but it does eventually. As an example, I stopped fishing salmon mid November this year and my elbow just started feeling 100% in the last few weeks.

I am no doctor though :). You know your own body and some cases can become serious if not addressed appropriately. I will say a brace like this worked best for me, at least managing the pain while fishing versus the typical sleeve type brace.

Tennis player and retired physician here. The braces they showed above work decently. It just takes some time really. No need to stop but activity may be less fun for awhile. Get on the Google and look for exercises, wrist extension and flexion with weight worked well for me. I actually took a 1 inch dowel I had in the garage, drilled a hole in the middle and but some nylon cord through the hole, added some pipe insulation to the dowel and then put a 5 pound anchor on the end of the rope. I then wind it up and wind it down with both hands held straight in front of me. It seemed to help, though I slowed my tennis down as well. Anyway, it lasted about 3 months.

What Wayne said. I've had it 3 or 4 times and 3-6 months is the usual wait. Mainly time and moderation in activity will fix. Excessive casting with a full sink for me. Oh and once from fishing the Cedar a few times with bamboo.

I also get it during salmon season, and in my case, it seems to come from downstream hooksetting while bobber fishing or fishing heavy streamer lines. The worst is a hearty set into a stick or rock, but big fish and heavy lines create a lot of resistance. Strip setting helps in avoiding it with streamer lines, but you can't strip set with bobbers/indicators/etc., and that is where I get it the worst.

I found a YouTube video with a physical therapist demonstrating some self massage techniques that work well for relieving the pain, but that's only temporary. Time and rest seem to be the only treatments that make a real difference.

I’ve had it off and on for the last 6-7 years. It generally flares up during beach coho season. This past season I got myself one of these and it helped tremendously. I highly recommend watching some YouTube videos for exercises that work for you.

Another vote for the theraband. I got golfers elbow last year from overdoing calisthenics and it went away after a few weeks of consistent reverse Tyler twists 3 times a day for 3x15 and using a little handheld grip strengthening thing when I’m sitting at the desk from time to time.

+1 for TylerTwists and TheraBand FlexBar. I'm also just starting the PBC-157 peptide treatments. Too early to tell if that will help or not.

I got it one year and could not cast a fly.

It was awful.

Try a physical therapist. Weight lifting helps me, but you don't want to take medical advice from a forester.

Don’t blame it on the bamboo Tim…….
Fixed it

Crossfit mobility band! I use it for lots of musculoskeletal injury. The stupid thing works. Bands used to be really cheap on ebay so nothing to loose. Primary IFU is tightly wrap injured area move though as many ranges of motion possible then take the band off. Repeat this over time. It is so stupid but it works. I use it on occasional knee pain and elbow pain.

I've had "tennis elbow". It can make lifting a glass of water painful. I've tried the "bands", but I personally have had much better results with the "brace" that covers the whole elbow area (above and below the elbow joint). Stretching is important. I went to a chiropractor for this. The doctor used an "activator". This is a small device that "snaps" against the painful tissue. Total game changer!!! Instant and permanent relief.

I play a lot of tennis (usta) and got tennis elbow really bad before sectionals tournaments. I found, at least for me, the careful and deliberate lifting of an ice cold twelve oz can of beer held at forearms length from the body, opened smoothly with the affected arm, then repeatedly sipped on using my sore arm helped over time. I would repeat as necessary. This got me through the tournament fairly well. This regimen works even better when your teammates workout with you.

I've had tennis elbow for 40-some years. I've tried braces and bands, and they help, that is, I feel better in the moment. I've also been to PT and had some medical treatment - they felt good in the moment as well, but no lasting benefit. A trainer at my former health club gave me the most effective advice. Four ibuprofen tablets twice a day and a 10 minute ice water bath for the elbow after exercise. Ice cubes and ice packs don't do shit by comparison. Dump 15 or 20 ice cubes in a large bowl, add cold water. Dunk that elbow - it'll hurt! Takes a few minutes to be able to hold and keep it submerged, but that ice water will reduce the swelling. Which reduces the pain. Try this treatment for 2 to 3 weeks and see if that doesn't improve things.
