Non-Fly Taking mom trolling Saturday

Ok, I'm 95% a fly guy so don't troll gear often, but I'm taking my 75 yr old mother out in the boat on Mayfield Saturday. She loves to fish and lives just minutes from the lake.
I have 3 rods all setup and ready to troll.
1st rod has a 4.5" silver dodger with the iridescent sticker on it trailed by a one of those bent metal lures that looks almost like a brook trout fingerling. It's called a Lil Minnow. 3oz weight so that'll be the deep rig.
2nd rod also has a 4.5" dodger with a different flashy sticker trailed by a black wooly bugger. I'll probably put 1oz on that one. Probably tip the bugger with a worm or shrimp. Maybe corn. I can't imagine not getting some action on that rig. It's the one I'll give her first.
3rd rod is really light and will probably have 1oz weight and a red wedding ring rig with a worm. It might be the one to out fish the dodger and bugger setup. We'll see.

Trolling battery is charged and can go all day. Any tips?

We used them with light keel chain swivel weights. Not all flatfish were the same. We had one that wiggled just right. It had half the paint worn off.

That's the thing about lures...I had a big resin head with a scoop nose that was crushed by a big ono...it took a chunk out of the resin, which caused it to track and wiggle differently...it was my most productive lure after the modification...
 
When my kids were young, we would troll flies and a F3 or F4 frog colored Flatfish for planters. That frog flatfish caught 80% of our fish!

These planters at Mayfield will be deeper than those April planters and all indications are the flasher or dodger game is hard to beat. The wedding ring with a worm on a 1oz weight got a few last year, but so did a bugger on my type 6. We'll see how we do. Water temp is about 70. It's already starting to cool. I'm packing the 11wt musky rod with me! 😁

I’m a big fan of the wedding ring spinners. I used to use them most for trolling lowland lakes for trout when I was young.

Nowadays, if I take out a non-flyfishing partner, I set them up with an ultralight spinning rod set up with the wedding ring, but trail a sparkly bodied Carey fly about 24” behind it instead of a hook and bait. Usually works well!
 
Buy (or make) a couple Wicked Lures. The "trout killer" size will probably be your best bet. Fish them behind enough lead to get you in the zone. A lot of Mayfield seems to be surprisingly shallow, so you might not need more than an ounce or so, and you could probably use inline weights, which are easier to manage than cannonball and would make for easy gear deployment/retrieval. Also, don't be afraid to troll some flies in the mix!

And watch out! @BriGuy had something that must have been toothy grab a streamer while we were trolling near the public boat launch at this year's swap meet. His rod bent hard and quickly snapped back. Besides his fly, there seemed to be a few inches of tippet missing when he pulled in the leftovers. They're in there....
