Swap and Shop?

Did some poking around online trying to find a spot with a covered area. Mayfield Park seems one of the better candidates. Since we'll probably do this before summer, I'd want to make sure we don't get rained out.

I would rethink PHW. Maybe Castinf for Recovery or Reel Recovery. (Edit)
I would recommend that they show up and man a "booth". This would give them the opportunity to be selective on what they take and make it easier on the attendees to donate.

The Skagit is open through the 15th. The following weekend is Easter. Right after that I head out for three weeks. I like the June idea though if we can work it in around school graduations. Perhaps the weekend of May 17, 18 might be easier to reserve.

Skagit and Easter are two things very much not on my radar, so I appreciate the heads up :D

I'll look in to whether or not the covered area is reservable. Need to figure out who to contact.

So my plan is to contact Tacoma Power here in a couple hours and ask if there's any restrictions on using this area. I've read the info on the website, but want to make sure before I book it. Once we get it locked in, then we can make another thread with the dates and make a real plan for the most important parts like food.

Ok I think I'm gonna reserve it, but here's a few stipulations I want to put out there before I make it official:

1. No alcohol at this facility - this is something that is going to be a thing pretty much everywhere we book with few exceptions from what I can find. Totally fine by me, but I know there's some who can't imagine doing a social gathering without it.

2. This facility cannot be used for any for-profit events or fundraising. This is where I think we're in a bit of a gray area with this plan. Unfortunately, the park office is closed until Apr 15 and there's currently nobody else I can talk to about it. I'm seeing if sending out a few emails ends up getting someone who can give me a for sure answer.

I am going to look in to a couple other options as well, but with the relatively central location between our two biggest areas of our "draw," and the covered area next to the water... water that's open for fishing I might add... it's hard to beat.

Still open to other suggestions. Checking out the areas around Redmond and Monroe as well, but that's getting far for our 2nd biggest draw which is Oregon.

From the distant Far East this sounds like a plan to take a lot of shit that you don't need to a place where you can exchange it for a lot of other shit that you don't need, meet friends, eat well, share some drinks and go home happy with about the same amount of shit that you arrived with but much better off just for the experience and good times. Sounds like a splendid idea to me!

Currently awaiting a response about the facilities at Lake Tye in Monroe. Seems like our 2nd best option and I could potentially take a poll from the peanut gallery. But I'm still on the fence about committing to Mayfield with that issue of fundraising events and such.

The one thing I like about the Mayfield Park is that there's a campground nearby in case we would like to make it a two-day event. In either case I would probably want to spend the night before and maybe the night of even if it's just a one day event. I would guess people coming from some distance might want to do the same thing.

Yeah, Mayfield has a lot of positives, but I'm apprehensive about committing before someone can tell me for sure whether or not our event is allowed.

I'm not at home right now but will be later today since I live in the state maybe I can find something out.

We need a poll of where people are coming from? If there are a lot of people from the south the park sounds great. It's almost 3 hours for me to get there.. but I'll go just to slap @Evan B on the ass! LOL!

Been emailing back and forth with City of Monroe about Lake Tye. There's a whole application process before I can even get pricing, and it's sounding like it might be quite expensive. I'll keep at it though.

Tacoma Power Parks gave me a thumbs up, and the guy even said "that sounds like something I'd want to go to!" So I'll wait to hear what the parks dept with Lake Tye has to say here along with @Matt B and what he hears from the state parks. But $50 for this Mayfield spot is a pretty solid bang for buck, and there's places nearby for those who want to overnight.
